video import

Hi, I have a video a client gave me and I can't get it into Sonar Producer 8.5.3, 64bit. Tried with X1 64 bit also.

8 minutes long
Quicktime .mov created on a MAC
Video codec is H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Audio codec is MPEG AAC AUDIO (mp4a) 48khz sample rate

Error is "unable to import video - Unrecognized file format ..."

I tried converting to avi but the file becomes 5gb and Sonar gives me out of memory error. Even when i choose 256 color lowest quality.

I tried converting with VCL and Real Player , to avi and wmv but then I hear no sound.

In the past I downloaed Klite codes, but I'm on  new pc. would that help me here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Kevin

    The obvious first...
Do you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on the PC ?
H264 is supposed to work after SONAR 8.0

    Otherwise..
try try Microsoft Expression (free version) to convert it to .WMV

I do have the latest Quicktime. But it doesn't play the audio back. When it starts to play the mov it says it needs to download additional software then brings me to a page witha whole assortment of things, but no indication of what I need to do.

The video format is H.264 and the audio format is 'aacl' 48,000 kHz

So far I've tried Nero, Avs Video Converter, and VLC Media Player. The latter at least plays both video and sound, but no matter how I convert it in that program I get no audio.

    I'll try Microsoft Expression next.

It might be a codec thing, but even GSpot is inconclusive. It tells me the formats -  mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC audio but it tells me codec status is undetermined.

    Appreciate your help.

i d/l klite codec pack and now the .mov file will play in windows media player and I can hear the sound. strangely i still can't hear the sound in quicktime. And having the ffdshow decoder which comes with klite has no effect on any of my converter programs.

Quicktime isn't 64 bit, so the 64 bit versions of Sonar can't open them. It should work fine in the 32 bit versions of Sonar.

I've gotten those videos to work in 64 bit Sonar using Klite or shark 007, but it was messy and I ended up removing those codec packs. They seemed to destabilize the system.

So for my quicktime scoring needs I stick with 32 bit Sonar.

I surrendered and just asked the client for an mp3 of the sound track. Then I converted the original quicktime to avi (without audio stream) and imported the video into sonar, then imported the mp3 and now i'm in business.

I guess the client's .mov export from final cut pro with aac lc audio doesn't play in quicktime, even 32 bit.

    Thanks for your responses.
