video of one way to make a MIDI groove clip

I received a handful of insinuating insults and personal attacks because I explained that I know how to make groove clip while taking the time to show people how many SONAR X1 bugs a user can encounter in 15 minutes.

A few people seemed genuinely interested to learn how to make a groove clip easily.

I thought it was a good opportunity to provide a comparison of how easy making Groove Clips can be, or how hard it can become when SONAR's embedded functions simply do not work.

Here's a video that demonstrates how easy we should expect to be able to make Groove Clips in SONAR.

I like using home made Groove Clips and I'd like to have the freedom to do so using all the functions and features that I have paid for.

I hope someone finds it useful.

best regards,
mike

One suggestion Mike for your next videos: http://camstudio.org/

It is free, open source and configurable.  (And you can still use an external source for audio recording).

Thanks, but I own a license for Adobe Captivate already.

I'm not going to spend time with all that stuff.

I could use clear scan on a camera but I like the flicker.

    :-)

It was a good suggestion though... Thanks.

    best regards,

Nice, Mike - Now that's basically the way I'm accustomed to making groove clips.  Except I use my keyboard to play them, quantizing off, editing anything that's too far off the mark, especially at the beginning and end of the clip where the loop can reveal funky timing.

But yes, as you show, making a groove clip can be a very quick and easy thing to do, even with the problematic X1.  The key is to plan just a little bit ahead, and create the original material to a click.

That makes Two videos from you which have been helpful for me to watch.  Before watching the other one, I honestly hadn't ever thought about people trying to make groove clips out of free time clips.  I always considered the whole groove clip thang to be about tight timing, so I hadn't ever considered trying to work the hard way, recording something meant for a groove clip without a metronome.

Intending no criticism, I want to add that UnderTow's suggestion to use a video capture program was a good one.  It's been a bit difficult to see everything you want us to see in your videos, and there wouldn't be that problem with a vid cap program.  Those programs aren't any more time consuming to use than setting up a camera and taking a picture of a screen, but the results make it much easier to see and understand what someone's trying to demonstrate.  I think it'd be great if you broke out your copy of Captivate next time you do a vid.

    Thanks for this.

Yes, the flicker gives it a nice vintage feel.  Makes it look warm, yet punchy.  The highs have a nice silky look to them. I can really see into the video with far greater clarity than a captivate digital capture.  Although it would look better if you captured at 59.94 or 119.88 fps. That would really increase the clarity. And 4:4:4 is really a necessity for this. All the pros work in 4:4:4

I occasionally make 3d animations so I like to brag to my video editor buddies that technically, I work in 4:4:4:4
