Thanks notnat. An oldie, but a goodie. How does the vocal sit in the mix out there? Trying to get a feel for translation. Thanks again, Matt

one of EJs best. your vocal is great; on point across the board.
funny, i didn't read the sc notes at first, and i was going to say what a tremendous emulation of the entire original track!!!  lol

well done here. you've got a natural gift of voice.

You chose a good song to cover.  Your voice fits this song well, and it floats on top of the mix nicely.  Having said that, this is one song where a touch of ambience could work quite well, such as a short delay or light reverb.  I don't remember if the original was wet or dry, but I say this because the voice and backing tracks don't sound like there in the same space.  But, overall, you can be quite proud of this.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Hi Lynn, thanks for listening. I know i said 'tried to let it be natural,' but there is a small amount of reverb and delay, though not a lot of either. I had a feeling it might seem too dry, but didn't want to risk sounding too processed. ------------------ The vocal not sounding separate from the rest is the main challenge (for me) in mixing a vocal into a stereo backing track. The BTs are usually kinda wet sounding to begin with and unless i use more verb/delay on the vocal track than i prefer to, it tends to sound like it's in a different space... still working on that one. Crushing the mix can help "integrate" the vocal into instruments, but i don't really care for the 'crushed sound,' especially not covering Elton John. Any suggestions would be very welcomed. Thanks agian. Oh yeah, nice avvy!

+1 on a touch of verb.

BTW, I can't tell the difference between you and Lynn.

I know what you mean, it's like doubledouble visionvision:-) EDIT: Added about 30% more rev (mix) also increased the depth quite a bit, but didn't hear a very big difference. Reluctant to over do it. Using a modified ValRoom preset"vocal slap room" along with about a 1/4 note delay on VX64. Thganks again.

I think you nailed it this time.  You don't really hear the reverb per se, but if you took it away it would be noticeable.  Now the voice and the instruments sound like they're in the same space.  Nicely done, amigo.  BTW, even though our avatars are stock footage, I actually have a Himalayan cat and synth similar to this one.  If there are those who confuse us, just tell them to lift the cat's tail - mine's a male ;)

Very nice vocal - you have an easy voice to listen to.

BTW, like Lynn went out and got a cat and synth to match his avatar, I stuck 2 bananas in my ears. It looks great but makes it very difficult while mixing.

Thanks Lynn and Bapu for suggesting the verb. It helps to meld the two/bridge the gap. Lynn, I watched your 'rescued cat' video. Is that who your avvy is based on? I like cats too (and synths). Thanks daryl1968 for listening and the kind words. Your Staypress stuff is pretty killer. I lol'd about the avatars. Rock-on.

Matt, thanks for checking out my video of my cat Razzmatazz, though he's not the Himalayan, King Tut.  Tut is in the video in kind of a cameo appearance.

Hello Cakers, spent some more time with this one today and tried to clean it up with some level automation and eq adjustments, etc. Was able to push the level up a bit more as a result. Here's the new link if you care to give a listen. Thanks. http://soundcloud.com/jack-klugman/your-song
