"vst plug-in failed to load: (80070057)" on x3e project load

hello:
i am having an issue with sonar x3e when opening/creating projects built on templates that I have created. these templates have vsts (vst 2 & 3, im quite sure). when opening these, or creating a new project based on these, I receive the following message:

VST Plug-In Error
The following VST plug-in failed to load: (80070057) c:\program files\common\vst3\

the system then hangs with a spinning circle and never opens/creates the project, requiring reboot. the only file at this location is, perhaps not coincidently, called WaveShell-VST3 9.2_x64.vst3. this file was modified last about two weeks ago.

i have rescanned vsts but the problem remains consistent. although I can open and play some of my projects they tend to be older, and in many cases less complex fx-wise, projects. all of these have worked very recently.

windows 7-64 patched to current (including patches today). I also added a new waves plugin over the last couple days, but have not integrated it into these templates. i have tried to use system restore to revert back a week to a previous state, but i still see this issue. any thoughts/suggestions you may have would be appreciated- i have a recording project starting in the morning and am completely at a loss. help!?!

thanks, js

Is is possible the templates are mixing VST2 and VST3 WAVES plug-ins. If so, this is a known problem. WAVES does not support mixing plug-in formats.

The only things I can think of are
    1. You have an old Waves version, they didn't fully support Sonar X3 until October/November or so.
Solution: run their online installer and update to the latest version
    2. You are mixing Waves VST2 and 3. While you can mix VST2 and VST3 plugs just fine within the same project, you can't do so with Waves. So use all VST3 of those (assuming you want side-chaining), they work fine in my Sonar. Try double checking if you mixed them. Remove the VST2 versions if so.

Open the project in Safe Mode, skip over the offending plugin, then replace the VST3 version with the VST2 equivalent and re-save. You could alternatively replace the VST2 plugins with VST3 versions, but there is no advantage in doing so.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

It depends, WAVES only supports sidechain in VST3. Replacing with VST2 may not produce the desired result.

    all:
thanks for your responses. after a long night working with waves the issue is resolved. the short answer as to resolution was removing all "extra" waveshell .vst* files, from locations like program files (x86), etc., and forcing a sonar system retest, done by removing profile/appdata/roaming/cakewalk.

we removed all waveshell files (effectively removing access to all waves plugins) and then removed the appdata directory- and the template opened, albeit without waves plugins. when only the 64-bit waveshell, from the waves waveshell storehouse location, was added back- presto!

hope this may benefit others, not a fun problem- and one with a lot of potential red herrings as causes.
    thanks again, js

For future reference, to reset SONAR hold CTRL and SHIFT while launching SONAR.

I to was having this problem and found it was do to wrapping the Waveshell-Vst3 9.2.vst with Novation Automap software which created a duplicate in the Common Files VST3 location which crashed Sonar any time I loaded a Waves plug-in. I unchecked Waves plug-ins in Automap Software and it  removed the duplicate file and cleared the problem. Hope this helps somebody.
