wave dump not the same as I'm hearing!!! Help

m audio 1010lt  quad system   window xp  3 gig ram   Producer 8.5     I have a dullness to my wave export after burned to cd. sounds good while mixing but nat after burning. I am using headpphones  hafner studio monitors & peavey sp5's to go back & forth while mixing. I don't understand this at all. never had this prob with older versions.

    Its typical of mixes not translatign well. It takes some practice to get a good mix. What sounds good in your studio doesnt have to sound good anyware else. Especially if your room isnt treated and tuned some sorta way. Keep doinmg it and train your ears to your mixing room and youll get one day.
    Its takes some time and practice to get a mix to tranlate on different systems. Just keep doing it and read some mixing books. There are some great one out there by Bob Katz

    CJ, you're assuming he's talking about a translation issue, IOW the recording doesn't sound the same on another playback system such as a car stereo. Perhaps you're right, but nothing in the OP's post indicates that. The way I'm reading it, he's saying the exported file doesn't sound right over the same speakers he used to mix it.

    djwhit54, can you clarify? Are we talking about an exported mix that sounds different when played back on your computer using the same speakers and headphones that you used to make the mix?

    If so, try this: rip the song from the CD and import it into your original project as a separate track. This will allow you to A/B it with the original mix and thereby determine if a difference really exists.

    I believe it's in his "Export" options dialogue...This is a common mistake made by new users....

    I am saying my wave dump doesn't sound the same as my recording on the same system or any other system.  I have an older sonar & this ISN'T a problem. It seems  8.5 doesn't have the separation or clearity (after dump) that my older Sonar does. Am I dumping wrong. I am going to export audio. Are there other things I can try  (Settings)  I am using the normal 24 bit settings

    There's absolutely no way that 8.5 exports any differently than older versions of SONAR. If you are exporting for the purpose of CD burning you need to be dithering to 44.1/16-bit.

    Well then its how your exporting your wave file. you can list your steps here and then we cansee what your doing worng. Its most likely your sourse. I select main outs as the sourse, since thats the last stage before it hits my studio monitors..And i get a mix that is exactly the same as it was in sonar

    It seems 8.5 doesn't have the separation or clearity that my older Sonar does.

    Whatever the problem is, trust me, that ain't it. If any sonic differences exist between 8.5 and older versions, I've not detected any. Except that 8.5 does a better job with automatic delay compensation, which improves sound quality.

    Thanks fellows A little later today I will upload all my settings. if you have any time in the next couple day to look them over it will be greatly appreciated.  For now I am going to try a couple of suggestions here & see if I can figure it out. Your suggestions have given me some starting points. Thanks
