I personally would go with MySpace. There is a special option for Musicians and it's a great way to freely allow people to stream your music.

I've used soundclick forever it's ok, and allows you to sell your music. Also, years ago I was contacted by a publisher for my work I had posted up there. So, it appears that at least some keep an eye on the site.

I can't stand myspace and I have a soundclick acct but I have stopped using it because in the last year it has gone horribly bad. the advertising they allow is not "family friendly" and most of them now have popups that override the browser popup blocker AND you can't close them. those practices are completely out of line, IMO and I am not using them any more. I use soundcloud.com for some stuff for now, but it has a limitation of how much you can upload and I'm worried about that. some folks use reverbnation or mixposure. I'm not fond of reverbnations interface, but I have yet to look into mixposure, but it looks pretty good. most of my stuff now is done completely on my own website, however. I pay $6/month for a web hosting server and that includes 2 registered domains and several subdomains, plus email accounts, and lots of extra stuff. if you're interested in this, please consider using my affiliate link. http://www.1and1.com/?affiliate_id=267772 I post my music on my website using a website builder called Web Easy Professional which I think was ~$50. I also use a music player called CoffeeCup which was another $30, IIRC. however the oneandone web server does have some limited web building tools and even some dynamic (flash) web building tools. you're limited on how many pages you can build with their software unless you upgrade, but I used their tools for a couple of years before I decided to branch out and use the web easy and coffee cup route. click on my beaglesound link in my sig to see what I have done with those tools.

chuck (e baby, if that's your real name ), The CHB hosts it's own site now (on a similar hosting site like 1and1 ala Beagle). Our pages (although limited today) are developed by a member in the band (I'll let him toot his own horn if he wants). Mainly we went this route to create our image and the best byproduct is that we can host 320kbs mp3s.

Soundclick and Bandcamp are two great ways to get your music up online. That along with a tumbler/wordpress with your own domain would be great!

If you end up doing your own website site - find the right domain name for yourself and look for a dependable host. I would suggest looking for a host that supports the "Wordpress" platform. Wordpress is also free and very easy to set up and customize. There are many free "themes" available - so you can set up your own custom web page with the look you want. Bandcamp is an excellent host for your music - It's free and you can also customize the look of your page to make it look like your website. Soundcloud is cool. If you are planning to do music for free downloads - you can also check out the internet archive.org.

All the sites above are music hosting sites and they are good depending on what your goal is, but often limited in what you can do with them. If you want a private site you need to get some software to build a site (under $50 for the cheaper ones like I use.....WEB PRO) then you find a hosting site like Go Daddy where you can choose your domain name and buy the hosting space on their servers. You upload to them and waaaa laaaa, you have a web site. You can customize it to your liking. I use my site as the launching pad to my other music sites... not all of them , and I can easily post new info that I feel is useful to people that record music.

There's no need to spend alot of money anymore. Get a free Wordpress account or wordpress.org if you have your own domain & web hosting. Also set up a Myspace & Facebook account for your band web presence. As much as they're disliked by many it's like having your business listed in the Yellowpages, a no brainer. Nowadays most people will likely go there or other social websites to listen to your rather than your webpage anyway. Reverbnation, Soundcloud are other OMD's you can use.

For some reason, I can't browse Myspace on my internet PC (Pentium 4 and 2GB RAM). They changed the layout a good while back and it all takes too long for me. I usually just move on in the huff eventually...lol Do any other have this problem with Myspace being slow and glitchy?

Some website designers seem to assume that all end users have up-to-date web browsers. You could try updating Internet Explorer. Better still, install Firefox.

Hi Kev Unfortunately, I'm already using Firefox (latest version). Looks like I'm done for...lol. I could try Google Chrome I guess. Stewart
