Of course they're not discontinuing Kontakt.  They are just "steering" you to buy it as part of Komplete, or forcing you to get it from their site, thus getting thus rid of the middle-man.
 
A lot of companies are hurting, and when that happens they quickly re-think their marketing strategies, regardless of how ill-conceived they may be.   IMO this is just an example of that.
 

If it's a move toward making kontakt full/crossgrade/uprade downloadable then I'm all for that! I hate waiting for that stupid box. Even if that leaves customers stuck with MSRP, they seem to have frequent enough sales lately to offset whatever % you might save at a retailer. I could see how just shipping one set of disks to store shelves could save them some significant overhead... My only thing is: don't remove solo kontakt as an option. The price diff to move up to the next level is too great, if you're one that has to keep oneself to a strict budget, which is a lot of us.
