Here is a funimental misundestading in Midi digital music. The DAw (MC5) is not under obligation to try to make their software work with all VSTi's The purchase or develop VST and VSTi implimentation, and make their software compatible with the basic standard. It is then up to the individual designers of the plugins to make there synth fit into that. Think about it what is more reasonable, to make 10 DAW softwares compatible to 1,000 synths, or for the 1,000 synths to comply with the 10 DAWs? Also as far as M-Audio is concerned, they have struggled mightily to keep up with the changing drivers needed to work with the changing Operating systems. Cakewalk writes a program that is ASIO capable, and the hardware makers, i.e. M-Audio write the drivers to match. If M-Audio writes a bad driver the whole thing fails on it's face. Then mix in the issue of the VAST differences in the systems out there, and the problem mulitplys. Every single computer is setup slightly different. Some people have aftermarekt video cards that change the dynamics of the system, this so they can play resource sucking games, others have TV cards, and web cams, you name it. All of this changes the IRQ, and many other properties of the system. Currently the latest M-Audio ASIO driver i have works in great in MC5, MTS, but struggles in Powertracks from PG music. That is more of a PG issue, since many other have ASIO issue, but MC5 works great for 99% of the people. So that is more of a user issue. All this must be taken in to consideration in fixing these things.

Might be an issue with Arturia's software, and I haven't checked that yet.//// that's more likely than a problem with m-audio drivers. there are MANY people (including Robo and myself) using m-audio drivers with MC without problems. Beagle .. it can't be an issue with the Arturia software. I had no problems whatsoever when I was using Abelton Live 7 LE. And Abelton picked up the sound card and its drivers without any issues. MC5 did not and required settings adjustments, some of which, still are not working, or we wouldn't be rapping the world down!

Moshkiae There is also something with the communication in MC5 with VSt's that is a problem. On my Jupiter 8 software I have keys setup on it, and mapped with the Midi board (M-Audio Oxygen 61 - the VCO's and FLO's and other functions) and it looks like MC5 doesn't like the key settings at all ... if I take the key settings out, I can play on the VST, but not on the midi board //////The root of the problem could be here - Pedro, can you actually open MC and insert any of the softsynths, and get sound from them using the MIDI controller? If I use the regular ones that came with the software they are fine ... having a hard time previewing anything as the program simply loads them all up into the main screen and it is not easy to get them removed ... at least haven't figured out why, yet! The Jupiter software I already told you. yes it plays but the quality is horrendous when I use the keyboard settings I have on the program. If I flush it, basically, all I can do is play it off the mouse on the screen and the keyboard won't let me do anything. So now one could say that the MC5 is not wanting to deal with the Arturia software. I can play it off the mouse, but the limitations of that is too much and not fun. By itself, without MC5 the Auturia software is by far the finest I have ever played with! Works great. It's just bizarre to see a program interfere with it! Other external VST's I have not tried but I'm ticklish right now ... my favorite one doesn't work ...

Considering how many VST's and where so much of the creativity is out there, I would imagine that any program not wanting or able to load VST's, specially the major ones ... has an issue. Or we could say ... the program is only interested in dj's that are not interested in better software out there than the mickey mouse samples that come with the software? You're kidding me right?

Hi, At this time, I'm out $69 bux ... and am not feeling up to par to tackle this, and the folks that are answering things are not the Cakewalk folks, just friends here, that could give me a serious suggestion as to how to proceed. I'm taking a break with this, and will decide in the next week if I want my money back and have them revoke the serial numbers they issued. This is just too nerve wrecking and at 59, none of us wants this irritation and not be able to enjoy life. I want to spend my time playing and enjoying what I do. And software hassles are un-wanted by all of us, and compatibility issues even more so un-wanted. At this point, MC5 is over for me, and I don't know when I want to hassle with something that I can not get proper help from. Beagle and Robo ... and the rest ... you folks have tried. The Cakewalk folks have not! Thanks a whole bunch all for your efforts. But the software maker here is the issue, not you guys. Ohh sure, it's always the end user that is screwed up and screwed over ... and most technical support I have ever seen ... well, suffice it to say that I work in a Call Center and did Internet Support for 8 years (now do database entry), and I always refused to be one of those people ... I offer customers coffee or tea, if you would, not talk ... and we get down to business and fix things! Very simple equation ... totally simple!

You are still missing the main point. It is not a matter of the program (MC5) not wanting to use VSTis, it is a matter of the VSTis not working with Cakewalk. You act as if all VSTis are the same, and that just because a plugin is a VST or VSTi it will work in every DAW program. Not all VSTi's are equal. Some are very good, some are very bad, some are resource hogs. All are based on the same code, but that code is implemented very differently. Some extract timing code from the host, others use there own timing code. In our own words you mentioned how many VSTis there are out there. Of those. some never do any testing with all the DAWs available, they just assume that their plugin will work with that host, but not all host implement the VST technology the same way. It is a very open field. So far i have found MC to work pretty well with most VSTi plugins, but some cause issue. Still the biggest issue i have found is user error, and that is something you have not fully addressed. All of this might be your fault, you might not have MC5 setup right, and still might be useing the plugins incorrectly. I do not say this to aggrevate you, but to help you. Several of us tried to point this out, yet we will never know since you are unwilling to work with us, and be patient.

One more thing you have to add to this. While some do test there plugin with the majarity of host software, that only means it works on their system. Your system might ahve other issues to deal with.

Pedro, Willy and Samara both responded to you in this thread asking you to send more info to Willy, but you keep saying that they are not listening to you. this sounds like "self-fulfilling prophecy" to me. If MC isn't working for you, then I am sorry, I would like to try to help you and apparently so would Willy, but it sounds like you are already defeated and there's nothing any of us can do for someone who's already given up. Good luck with Abelton, I hope it does what you need. It is a good program as well and if it works for you then I think you should use it! Best wishes, Reece aka Beagle

Exactly the same settings in the Arturia software ... and MC is interfering or the sounds would not be messed up and snap, crackle and pop ... and adjusting is not fixing it. You want to tell Arturia that MC5 is messing with their program? Or maybe that this is actually intentional to get you to purchase the Cakewalk's version?

I have MC (4&5) and have yet to find a single VST that will not run on it. I stopped using the "free" VST's from the online community.....although I know a lot of you guys and gals still do, and they work just fine. The only thing I have had problems with have been several of the free soundfonts for the SFZ player...and since I got some getter synths and samplers, I have not used SFZ now in many moons. If I had MC working and only one VST would not run, I think I might look for a replacement VST that does the same job rather than scrap my entire rig..... that's just me though....

I am so glad that it works with Ableton Live, that way you can make music. I am tickled pink that you have nothing on there but a few things. Still you refuse to accept the possibility that it is either your system or the plugin that is the problem. It is a fact that some plugins do not work with every system, nor every program host, Jamstix works great with MC, but it only half works with Powertracks. Like i said, twice now, just because a plugin works with one program does not guarantee that it will work with another. Cakewalk does not have the time nor the responsibility to make sure that every plugin works with their system. There are just too many of them. Have you talked with Arturia to see if they have any insight? Do they even have support? Did you go to the sonar forum and ask if anyone there is using Arturia software with Sonar? Have you e-mailed Willie at cake and ask for his help? Since you still refuse to take the necessary steps to gain the help of the tech support at Cake, then i really do not know what you want here?!?! Send an E-mail to willie, and or Samara. Follow up with Arturia and ask for help, detail what steps you have taken to fix the problem. Do something, don't just whine and complain that it does not work. Or better yet go use the software you have that does work. If you do not follow thru on these and other suggestions, then it is clear to all that you do not want help, you just want to complain, and if that is the case, then count me out, cause i take my whine with cheese. Respectfully, Rob

I downloaded the trial version of the Jupiter 8V soft synth last night to see if I had any issues with it in SHS 6. DL took 33 minutes! Even though it's a trial, you still have to enter an activation code for it to work, and use e-licenser to enable it. Everything went perfectly until e-licenser told me "E-licenser failed. Use master server instead of slave server". What? How do I do that? Regardless, it's now gone from my computer. Mosh, did you see the responses in this thread from the CW folks? They want to help.

Guitarhacker I always try to find out how a product activates..... I don't like the complicated ones. That was my first experience with something that requires a dongle. Although the trial version does not, the full version does. You'd think it should be easier. The DL info looked simple: download, install, enter activation code, e-license. That last step was the killer.

I also cannot preview MIDI clips in the Loop Explorer. The 'play' button lights up, and it looks like it's playing, but I don't hear anything. Documentation implies that the preview feature is for audio clips. Not that I've ever needed that before, and am unlikely to need it in the future; I just wanted to try what Pedro was doing to see if it behaved similarly on my machine. Didn't get the error message, though.

nope, you have to select the output source for the previews in the left pane of the preview window. it has all of the synths listed there that you can use for output and hardware synths are not available in that list.

A preview list is just that, a way to check out clips and see if they are what you want. So most likely hardware output comes later in the chain.

after that you can highlight a MIDI loop, hit PLAY on the preview transport and it should play. you can also then drag or double click that loop to put it on the MIDI track you just inserted at the place where the timeline's cursor is.
