what might cause this? short freeze when instantiating a VSTi
I installed my setup from scratch, fresh Win7Pro, fresh X2, fresh X2a update, everything fresh, new and up to date. Now, whenever I instantiate a VSTi, the UI appears and the Sonar X2 UI freezes for some couple of seconds. Anyobody else, or am I the only one? Can't remember Sonar X2a freezing on the old cluttered studio setup...

I see this with Waves plugins sometimes. I think it's calling the mothership to see if it's time to randomly refuse to recognize my license again.

TabSel Anyobody else, or am I the only one? Nope. Same here. Fresh Win7Pro (re-installed, to be precise), fresh X2, fresh X2a update. Happens to all my VSTis. Freezes for about 4 seconds. This didn't happen when I was on X1.

garrigus Another user I know had this problem and this was his solution... "Hey Scott thought I would let you know it was a issue with the GFX catalist driver I uninstalled it then just put on the display driver and Sonar is no longer hanging . Its the utility driver for the Radion 6450 the work around is install the catalist then uninstal everything but the display driver so happy I dont have it hanging now." Scott In Device Manager I see ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 under Display Adapter. I clicked the driver update button and it says its the latest driver. I don't understand this "install the catalist then uninstal everything but the display driver" part. What exactly do I need to do?

Thanks Scott, I think I'll first contact tech support and hear their suggestions. I'm not in a hurry, anyway. 4-second freeze isn't that annoying. I can practice meditation momentarily. And...who knows, X2b might solve the issue.

Same problem here with all vsti, and I have an NVidia card.

For the record, I posted about this problem some time back ...after an exhaustive set of questions from a fellow forum member we got nowhere. Other forum members kicked in reporting similar issue. Dear Cakewalk tech team.... we have a problem here amongst many users! Not necessarily your program ...but we can sure use your help!
