what shouldn't you have sold??

for me its a 72 Thinline Tele(guitar not image making machine)

A voice inside my head was screaming dont do it
- but by that time I had caught "Retail fever" - if the sales assistant had offered me a couple a jelly babies and a wing nut for the tele I'd have probably accepted.

I won't even say what I part x'd it for - needless to say I no longer have it

I had an early 1980s Lado Falcon, serial number 0030 (or something very low). Fully loaded, natural maple with mahogany stripes.

Damn I wish I had kept that.

It was sitting on counter at the music store after I traded it in and a guy walked in 5 minutes later, picked it up, looked at the serial number and said I'll take it.

I traded a nearly-new 1991 Gibson Les Paul for a Marshall 4x12 cabinet and a set of power tubes for my amp. The local music store TOTALLY took advantage of a naive young teenager...

In 1975 I traded a Gretch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman - it was about a 1960 model. I traded it for some piece of junk acoustic guitar.

    I still regret it.

My bought new in 1973 Ibanez Les Paul Deluxe Gold Top replica. I think I might appreciate it better now.

In fact it's from lessons learnt like that that I now have a mountain of stuff that I should have gotten (I love old English) rid of years ago when it did still have some value, so you can't win either way!

    Hmm... good question.
I haven't really sold anything I regret selling, except perhaps an old Roland drum machine that was just SO easy to program... except I don't really regret that now, since I have a bunch of other drums for that.

Now, what shouldn't I have BOUGHT:
That's easy... Roland MC303... Roland MC307... Korg Z1 (still have it but never use it and don't want to regret selling it so it sits there taking space)... Yamaha RS7000 (still have for the same reasons I have the Z1)... several computers... several audio interfaces... several midi interfaces and controllers... gigabytes of unused loop libraries... gigabytes of samples... half-a-dozen virtual instruments... Sonar 7 (sorry, I regret it for personal reasons)... on and on and on...

same story.... Nice Gibson The Paul.... needed an acoustic for a solo act I was doing..... any time you trade in... you're loosing and the store is winning. I think an old Carvin amp was thrown in too.... by me. wish I had them both back....

Another time....I had a monster of a kick @$$ PA system.... bins, mids, JBL horns, amps, 3 way crossover, mixer..... sold it all to another band after I got in a house band.... got a good price for the equipment.... just hated to see it go. That PA could handle any room we put it in....and it sounded soooo good.

I had a vox super beatle amp which the band I was in wanted to do an a acoustic amp line up............really loved that amp....

also the music store I was teaching Guitar at took me royally on selling that acoustic amp only to sell me a Roland Bolt at a high price..........still have that amp........still hate it.........

also I sold a old gibson arch top which was fantastic..........and I let some one setal that on me as well.............as you can figure out by now........I don't do any buying and selling .....I tend to buy very carefully and then hold on to it FOREVER!!!!

The mono synth I had back in the '80

    Korg MS-20 and MS-10
    Roland SH-101 and TB-303

I also had the Korg MS-02 interface so I could convert HZ/V to Oc t/V.
With it, I could link all those synth together. Lot of fun.

I sold them for almost nothing except for the SH101.
I have put it on EBAY a few years ago I got 460$ US (about 640$ CDN at that time).

Top of the line Marshall JCM 800 50 watt head - had all the bells and whisles that money could buy in 1987 - some say it was the best model of JCM 800 ever made - here's where the knife gets plunged in - I sold it to pay for one of those abominable early 1990s fender solid state "red knob era" amps - yeah, the one that I no longer use anymore.

Marshall 50W head and 2 2 x 12 cabs - sweet sounding amp and the cabs were so easy to ferry around when gigging.

Sold them in about 1985 for £100.00

Replaced (eventually) by a rather noisy, obnoxious Peavey Bandit which weighed twice as much and had nothing like the tone of the Marshall.

    Idiot.

    A stock 122 and a hot-rodded 145 Leslie.

At the time I was moving away from the Hammond and more heavily into synths in general. (Plus I didn't want to pack all that stuff around anymore.)

I wouldn't mind having one of them around these days.

Not so much as I sold it.

I hadn't used the Fender tweed my grandmother used to play during the late 50's early '60's, as it wasn't big and loud like my stacks. So dad took it down to the Salvation Army without saying a word. When I found out I was simply crushed. I knew what it was worth back then. Dad's comment "well you weren't playing through it, so now maybe someone will." I drove down to the SA thrift store (at that point 2 weeks had passed) to find someone had already bought it........

My '65 Rickenbacker 360/12- I sold it to finance a move to LA to join a band that imploded after three months.
My Oberheim Two Voice and Four Voice- I needed a fairly substantial cash inflow at the time.

Yamaha CS-60. Tempermental, ornery, have-to-calibrate-the-oscillators-under-a-blanket-with-a-flashlight monster - but it had a sound, and the ribbon controller was the best ever made.
