what's audio driver bit depth for?

hi I use a Saffire LE with asio4all

somehow my parameter for audio driver bit depth is Greyed to 24 and there's no way to change it
if I go to global options I can indeed change it to 16 or 32 and it works so I ask myself
what is the function of that menu (audio driver bit depth)?
why can't I change it anyway?

That´s the real "Bit possibility" (analog-digital convertion) which is send from your driver/soundcard to Sonar

Read your sonar manual on how to set up your soundcard and audio drivers. Its there in big print

Which driver you have choose ? It´s important to take the ASIO driver from your card and NOT the MME or WDM driver

Dude your sound card has exellent drivers. have you tried downloading the latest version of the driver?????????????? and try WDM and you have to ajust your latency and buffers for both to get it working at its best. these are not just plug and play things..

Audio driver bit depth states how your interface interacts with Sonar. The "record" and "render" settings under Options->Global->Audio Data tells Sonar how to save the data once it's in Sonar. Record for recorded files, render for bounce, freeze, export. These 3 settings are completely independent.

You should probably set "record" depth to the same as audio driver bit depth. Otherwise truncation or file padding is taking place. Set "render" to whatever you like, but I think most people set it as 24 or 32.

You can't alter the audio driver bit depth because under the current driver setting the interface only supports 24 bit. Using a different driver type may allow you to change this.

you should take the time and set up your saffire correctly, you can record , i think at 24/96 with that sound card or at least 24/48. your recordings will benefit from the higher sample rate and bit depth. Go to focussrite's web site download there latest driver for your sound card, Then start up sonar and select your card for the ins and outs(midi and audio)
why are u settling for less..
all this is in your sonar manual. do u have a manual.
