Mokko, I'd like to be helpful, but there's really not enough data to go on. I'm not sure what you mean about buffering up and down for the drums.

Also, if you load a plugin and your computer tries to shutdown or it locks ups, it sounds like you have a bunch of other stuff installed possible messing things up.

It might be time to consider a format and keeping the machine clean. A good install shouldn't have that kind of problem.

    Hi Mokko

Is this the laptop you have http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4175

If so that may be the cause. It's from 2008 and is recommended for basic computing. Word processing, playing music, surfing net etc but may struggle carrying out CPU heavy tasks such as audio recording.

Both Sonar X1 and Amplitube 3 are CPU hungry especially if you're trying to get low latency for recording live guitar parts. You could try some of the following, some cost some don't.

    1 - An extra 2GB of RAM

2 - Recommended Tweaks for running a DAW on Windows Vista (or what ever OS you have). http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov08/articles/pcmusician.htm

3 - Freeze any CPU heavy synths or plugs you have in your session

4 - Increase you sound cards buffer until you get the best of low latency and now crackles. Start around 512

5 - Try running Amplitube 3 in ECO mode for recording and increase to HIGH mode for bouncing.

I was only every able to run one instance of Amptiube 3 in Sonar on my 2.2GHz Dual Core 4GB Vista PC. I was forever reverting back to Amplitube 2 or freezing instances of Amplitube as went along or ran it in ECO mode whilst recording.

    Hope that helps
    Dean
