where did the name cakewalk come from?

I used to do cakewalks in kindergarten. You get a bunch of people walking around on colored tiles in the hopes of getting a cupcake or a large cake. Kind of raffly. Very sad.

But I always thought the term "cakewalk" was a mish mash of "piece of cake" and "a walk in the park"...both meaning easy. I NEVER look things up though.

My current project, doing the SFX and score for a game called Ultra Cakewalk Dance Dance Megamix 64. (that may be a joke, I'll check.)
