which is the best placement for my workstation desk?

I currently have my workstation desk against a wall adjacent to my bed which I use for seating and is not the best for back support and need to move it to another position in my room so I can get a comfortable chair.  I'm limited to my options as I already have an older desk a long one wall and other furnishings in my small bedroom.  my options are:

a.  leave the workstation desk where it is and bare the back pain from my bed seating.
b.  move the workstation desk to the opposite side of my bed and move the bed against the wall.  this option will leave me with about ten inches of walking space to get in and out of bed but will allow me to use a chair.
c.  move my workstation desk in front of my old desk that houses my stereo system.
d.  move my old desk against the connecting wall and move a proportion of my workstation desk to where my old desk is situated.  the workstation desk would not be right in the corner because my old desk would fill up that corner but the two desks would form an L.

i'm also concerned about how things will sound when i monitor my music.  option a. will have my monitors situated about 4 inches from the wall but one monitor's back will be near my window.  option b. would have my monitors placed in the center of my room.  option c. my monitors will be about 30 inches away from the wall since my old desk would be behind my workstation desk.  option d.  i have room to move my workstation desk away from the wall so that my monitors aren't too close to the wall.

btw, someone from another thread of mine mentioned i should get a lava lamp for my home studio set-up.  do you folks actually have one in your studios and what role does it play in your music production?

1 - You must NEVER compromise your own health & safety! If you've got back problems now - I'm guessing you're quite young? - then this will only get worse as you get older - trust me! Whatever solution you decide on, make sure it involves the use of a proper chair.

2 - Be brutal, and clear out as much as you can out of your room. The more pace you've got, the eaise rit'll be to set up a recording/mixing environment in which you can get a half decent result.

3 - Forget B - you don't want to do anything with your monitors in the  middle of the room.

4 - Why do you need 2 desks? Are shelves an alternative? (There's ALWAYS an alternative somewhere)

5 - Draw a rough diagram of your room, with furnishings, doors, windows etc. It needn't be to scale but some dimensions would help.

6 - You must NEVER compromise your own health & safety! If you've got back problems now - I'm guessing you're quite young? - then this will only get worse as you get older.

7 - Lava lamps are an absolute necessity - I couldn't work without mine!

    I just want to add:

NEVER compromise your health and safety.

You need to be comfortable while you work.  If it hurts, you are doing it wrong. Repettitive strain injuries can end up leaving you permanently disabled.

It's a little tricky to picture what your room is like without a diagram, one of those would help a lot. Option c or d sounds best, but without a diagram, it's hard to really choose.

Do you really need the bed? Get rid of that old matress and you've got plenty of room.

I use a HPF to eliminate this - set at about 12KHz - works a treat

i'm working on some planograms for my bedroom studio and its giving me a better visualization while allowing me to move furnishing to different areas of the room without having to physically move each piece of furniture.  from my list above, my favorite options are b. and d.  if I choose b. getting in and out of my bed will be going behind my workstation desk with less than ten inches of clearance while possibly bumping some wires (hopefully not being entangled).  if i choose d. it will free up a lot of space by making use of a lot of unused space.  the old desk can house my in the future custom built desktop and will have room for a small mixer or even the V-studio 100 or 700.  I was contemplating getting rid of the desk but then it made sense to try and incorporate it into my studio set-up.  That being said, option c.  wouldn't work since I'd have a hard time accessing it since my workstation desk would be in front of it.

does anyone else have their home studio set-up in their bedroom?  what about adding stage lights, dj lights and a smoke machine?  Just the thought of having a home studio set-up gets me really excited.
