why YOU SHOULDN'T PLAY ANYTHING IN Am
Because the minor key isn't based on just one scale, it is based on the 3 minor scales we use in western music. The harmonic, melodic, and natural minor scales. The harmonic minor scale is clearly just a pool from which we draw chords into the minor key, hence the name, right? We borrow the V and viiº from the harmonic minor scale, and use them in the minor key as dominants, since the natural minor scale doesn't have a leading tone. I can't even explain the importance of the V chord in functional harmony, but it's vast, and without it you'll have a very dull, and weak resolution, that's why we always use it! And since the natural minor scale has a v, instead of V, we need to somehow correct that to make the harmony stronger and more functional-hence the harmonic minor scale. Minor chords tend to sound sad and gloomy, emotional, moving and angsty. They are commonly used in tension filled songs, such as "break-up" songs, or in movie scores to add drama. Extreme dissonance can sound scary (Hitchcock's "Psycho" music), angry, frenetic, mechanical, or irritating. It can be found in avant-garde compositions and metal, industrial, and hardcore music. and a disertation if your bored and have time to read HERE

I thought the reason not to play in Am was that C Major sounded better.
I've been trying to hide that from bapu... just in case he's ever late for a gig and I get a chance to fill in with the CHB.

I'm confused. I thought to B sharp you had to be Am to B flat which made you G minor. THAT'S WHAT I GET FER THiNING!

v (sometimes) rules over V!!! Modes over scales!!! Especially mixolydian.
Real music uses modes, Dorian, Phrygian, etc.

You know, there is a house in New Orleans where the play that note. It's a real Classical Gas. They're Helplessly Hoping for better chords, think. I think they play it in Tuscon, Arizona as well. Some Southern Man told me. Even Bach had a Fugue when hefound out...

I like Am.... it plays on the same white keys as Cmaj....... none of those flat or sharp black keys to try to remember.
