I think you have to make sure that you have Copy Automation selected in the Copy dialog and then again make sure you have Paste Automation selected in the paste dialog. Trying using right click > Copy Special then right click > Paste Special to view all the various options.

I never did this in X1 though and I've barely done it in X2.

Automaton is only half developed in Sonar IMO.

Yeah... actually I don't even think you need to use Copy/Paste Special. Just right click > Edit > Copy and it'll give you a list of things to copy. Using just the Keyboard commands doesn't seem to bring up that dialog... but I may have an option turned off somewhere.

Depends on what you are trying to do. There were issues with copy/paste in X1 that were never fixed.

Well how exactly are you doing it? Select the clip by clicking it > right click on the clip > select Edit in the menu > Copy. Is it grayed out or something?

Beepster, I know what u mean, that box appears even with keyboard commands, and I select just "automation" (not clips, etc), and it cuts and paste instead of copy paste?
Maybe Im missing something because a few hours ago i dont know what the hell i did but it just copies and paste simply and correctly... I´m lost with this

I dont have the clip, it´s just the automation of the audio channel of a midi synth

I select the audio track and the bar. Copy the automation from bar1 and want to paste it into bar2... thats all.
when i paste the automation in bar2, the first bar has no automation at all.

I must be missing something, i dont think its a sonar issue

Weird. As I said I never really worked much with automation in X1, especially MIDI automation. Can you try doing a range select over the automation then doing a Ctrl + Drag move to see if that'll do it?

And if it's a bug maybe after you paste the automation to destination paste it again where it was originally as the automation should still be on the clipboard. Pain in the butt for sure but it might be a workaround. Cheers.

    ???

I thought you said it was a MIDI track? Are you trying to paste MIDI automation into an audio track? I don't know how that would work if it's even possible or why you would try to.

    I'm very confused now. :-/

I think you are going to have to describe in detail exactly what you are trying to accomplish including as much detail about what type of automation you are trying to copy and to where.

Okay... so you got it to work once. Write down what you did specifically. Save the project and close it then reopen it (maybe Sonar needs a restart) then keep trying what you did and variations of what you may have done to see if you can get it to work again. If you can't get it to work open a new project and set it up in a way that you can try to do this same type of automation copy/paste move to see if it works.

The reason I say this is because it may be a corrupted project being buggy. Might be time to take a look into X2 now as well. Despite all the horror stories on here it's not as bad as people make it out to be and automation is a WHOLE lot easier to deal with.

    Cheers and good luck.

Also try increasing your audio buffers. Your system isn't low power but it's not a powerhouse either so X1 (which is a resource hog) might be getting confused as you try to edit. I had many problems on my system trying to edit with X1 at low buffer setting and my system IS a powerhouse. Might be worth a try anyway.

X1 has a few bugs regarding copying and pasting automation but most of those were Simple Instrument Track and Buss related.

Are you sure that the nodes are all being selected? As Beepster has asked it might be helpful to describe exactly what you are doing to perform the copy and paste. Paste is also just as controllable as the copy so it may be a setting there causing the issue.

why sometimes automation doesnt just copy-paste simply?? im using x1
    Does anybody knows?
    thanks
    You do everything right!
It's totally broken in X1 with Synths, Buses, plugins but they have solved all the automation issues in X2.

All automation lose its the connection value with any synth or plugins during "copy and paste" and you can't reattach the automation either.
I have sended numerous bug reports to Cakewalk in X1 trying to help them to solve all Automation issues. They did eventually!
The only way to solve this is to update to SONAR X2 that has automation lanes and other new features.

Copy annd Paste and all automation work in X2.
