working with layers

say I have several tracks, each track has 4 layers. Is it possible to mute/solo the same layer on all tracks, say mute all layers except layer 3, without having to build groups?

    Hey there!

Yes it is. If you click on the "Show Layers" button on the track header (and perhaps righ click on track header - Layers - rebuild Layers) so you see all the layers in that track, then you have Mute/Solo buttons for each layer on the left side of the audio tracks by the track header. You might have to zoom a little to see them/be able to click them.

I meant not track by track, but for all tracks, e.g. choose/play back only layers 3 of all tracks, with one key shortcut, instead of soloing/muting each layer on each track.

Right. Well, I would asume so, without being able to try it out now, using Quick Grouping. If you want to do this on every track just hit Ctrl+A and while holding down the Ctrl key you could try to click the Solo button for the third layer. I'm not sure if this works but it's worth a try. If you want to do this in a selection of tracks just Ctrl/Shift select the tracks you need and while holding Ctrl down, click the Solo button next to the layer you want soloed on any track.

Like I said, not sure if it works, but it would be really cool if it did

Yeah, I just realized that too Too bad, that would be a very handy feature. I don't know if other types of grouping can be used but for now it looks like you're up for a whole lot of clicking.

Either way, it's time for a feature request!

Good luck with the project anyway, and I hope you'll get a great result. Have a nice weekend

too bad. seems like Logic is way ahead of the game, where these things work easily.

I guess you could say so. The Layers in Sonar are pretty powerful - but there is definitely room for improvement in regards of this
