x2a install error messages

I am trying to install the x2a patch and I get the following error message:

"C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\CW100Auto.dll

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 fai8led with exit code 0x3.

Click Retry to try again. Ignore to proceed anyway (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation."

Retry does not work and the same error appears, Ignore leads to further errors and after the installation is complete I cannot run X2 as the following error appears:

"The program can't start because mfc110u.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I am running the 64 bit version of X2 Producer on a very fast i7 with loads of RAM and I have not had any issues with X2 to date.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I had no issues installing X2a update patch. Did you have anti-virus on whilst downloading (sorry no question mark). Turn of all progs, download again and then try to install.

Thanks for that.  I tried downloading the patch again with anti virus off but the new version has the same problem.

I did a system restore to the point before the patch was first installed but now x2 won't open so I guess I will have to reinstall x2 all over again.  Grrr ....

Does anyone else have any further ideas?

So I reinstalled x2 (did not uninstall just ran the install discs) and I still cannot get x2 to run.  Once again, i get the error that says mfc110u.dll is missing.

    Why?

    Hi there,

I would recommend contacting technical support. It sounds almost like the patch may have been bad and corrupted X2. It seems odd, however, that a system restore would not bring X2 back online for you.

       Best regards,

Joined the forum to reply to your post. Tried to install X2a patch yesterday and ran into the identical problems you have mentioned . . . right down to the same error messages. I too, tried all of the "redo fixes" mentioned earlier with no success. I finally contacted tech support and they recommended I do a clean install of Sonar X2 and sent instructions for manually clearing the windows registry before reinstalling. After doing this, X2 installed properly and functioned properly. I then felt rejuvenated and tried to install X2a again. I ran into the same problems I had the first time. I must mention that the program did open and would function after installing the patch both times. However, everything was visually zoomed in as if I had lowered the resolution for my monitors (including third party windows). Half of the normal window wouldn't fit. I then messed with docking and undocking some items and they began to freeze. Have had no problems (couple bugs) until now. System restore did work after the second install and I am now at the exact point I was before wasting a day and a half. I too am looking for answers. Hope I posted this correctly. Will update info soon . . . for now Win 7 64, i5 2.8, 12 GB RAM

I posted this issue yesterday as well... I too got it here when installing from a hard copy DVD (factory) of X2... A number of shared utils dll's would not register...

But X2 appears to be working fine on the laptop I installed it on so far... I have not applied the X2a patch there yet as I'm still wondering if I need to re-install X2 yet again (I already have installed/uninstalled at least 3 times)...

I had virus protection off and ran as administrator every time but the same happens each time...

I believe that one can register the DLL through a CMD prompt session - looking into it.

The error means that the CW100Auto.dll is not registered, for whatever reason.

I am providing the format and some instructions for doing this yourself below - but recommend you consider calling tech support to review the situation with them.  I have seen other posts out on the web for this issue, some for other products and some for Sonar (8.5.3 and X1), so they may well have a quick answer for you.

In the event you want to try to manually register the dll:

Hit Start, then type in cmd, and when you see the CMD prompt show up in the results, right-click on it and click on Run as Administrator.

Once you get to the command prompt type in:
    regsvr32 <path & filename of dll or ocx>

    which for you would be: regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\CW100Auto.dll

Then hit enter, and it will register the dll.

Type 'exit' to close the CMD prompt session.

Please proceed with above preceded by some sort of tequila, and again, consider calling tech support as this error should not occur during installation.  On the other hand, you have already trashed the install, and this will not hurt any other part of your system - it is a program specifically provided by Microsoft for manual registering and un-registering DLL's.

    Thankyou all for your input.

I have solved the problem.  I hope this benefits others.

It seems that my problem was to do with the naming of my various drives and most importantly the fact that for a while now I have been using an SSD for my system drive.  That was called 'D'.  It was effectively a replacement for my old system drive which was called 'C' which remained in the computer.

The system was operating in some weird hybrid state where it was booting from D (the new system drive), but attempting to use the filesystem on C: for all installations

This caused all kinds of instabilities (mainly the windows installer service issues). Although I had the option to install X2 and the X2a patch on my system drive (D) and did attempt to do so, because of the pre-existing install on C x2 was looking for some files on C and they weren't there.

So to those who are suffering from the problem I described, have you got your system installed on a drive that is designated as anything but 'C'?  If so, you might need to change the drive letter of the current boot drive

To do that even if your system is Win7, you must follow these outdated instructions for windows xp or boot from a different install - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188

Good luck.  I hope this helps to solve your problem.

    Thanks Bob...

I know of the registration process, but I've refrained from trying wondering why it might have failed to begin with...

I may try this as a last resort... But I'll have to uninstall/reinstall yet again to do so as I didn't write down the filenames that failed... Simply noted them and ignored... ;-(

Bumping this thread as I'm having the exact same issues with no resolution.  I'll start a support ticket shortly but just wanted to see if anyone else is still having this issue and/or any other fixes.  FWIW, manually using regsvr32 either 64 or 32 bit doesn't help and still gives me the unable to load dll problem.  X2 installs and runs fine, X2a won't work on my new system.  I just upgraded to an i7, lots of ram as well and fresh install of win7 64bit.  Once I get windows installed the first program I install is SonarX2 so I can't see how X2 is ok but X2a screws up.  I can live with X2 but wanted the fixes and updates in X2a.
Ps, all my error messages are the same as in the original post of this thread.  It's the cw100auto.dll that fails the regsvr32, as well as vs700.dll and midi fx chordanalyzer.dll.  All work in X2, but not in X2a or even in the X2 quick fix patch that came out before X2a.

I have had to use that registration technique in the past for something else.  It worked for me - why not give it a shot for your particular problem.  If it fixes it, great - if not, you wouldn't be any worse off.

Hi Robert, if you mean the manual regsvr32 technique then yes, I've tried it...  What I don't understand is why Sonar X2 can auto register the dlls fine but X2a kluges it up with no other system change whatsoever...
Ps, there's 2 ways to regsvr32 under command prompt...one is to invoke it from windows\system32\regsvr32.exe and the other is to call it from the 32 bit folder under windows\syswow64\regsvr32.exe.  I've also tried re-downloading the X2a patch a couple of times to make sure it wasn't a corrupted download, but I may do it again with all firewalls and antivirus off...
    Thanks again

I wish I knew more about it all - I only know that a while back, I had for some reason one of those kinds of error messages - don't think it was for Sonar, but I looked it all up on the web and tried that manual registration and it fixed my particular issue, so I thought I would suggest your trying it.

So, it is a bit unclear from your post - you have tried it, did it work?  Were there additional things that were not registered?  Can you elaborate a bit on where things stand now?

    Thanks,

    Re:x2a install error messages 2013/03/28 17:23:54 (permalink)
What I tried was to manually use Regsvr32 to register the cw100auto.dll in my shared utilities folder.  It wouldn't work at first because of the space between shared and utilities in the path.  Cmd.exe didn't like that so I had to put the whole path in quotes.  Once I did that, the .dll registered ok.  All good, this is still in X2.  Everything works so I then try to install X2a.  Install goes fine until the very end where it complains that chordanalyzer.dll, cw100auto.dll and vs700.dll can't be registered by regsvr32.dll.  I can manually register the vs700.dll ok from x2a using the regsvr32 command line, but when I try to register the cw100auto.dll I get a new error window saying that "the module cw100auto.dll may not be compatible with this version of windows...", and to check to make sure it's compatible with a 32 or 64 bit version of regsvr.
So I dunno what changed, but I submitted a tech support report to cakewalk about it and I'll live with X2 for now.

    Re:x2a install error messages 2013/06/13 10:22:49 (permalink)
Is it possible that antivirus software is interfering with the DLL registration process?

I am looking at some things related to the reported error message at the top of the post - Unable to register etc.., and I saw a couple of different posts out there (not from this forum - the error can occur with other software and Windows), so I thought I would ask.

There is also a chance another program that is running, not antivirus software, is interfering with the install process.

For those who are having these errors, I recommend making sure as little as possible is running when performing the X2a update.  There are usually a horde of applications running - many are in the system tray, use Task Manager to see.  Or, do a selective start of Windows, with Start Up programs not allowed to load.  (also, if not already done, run the X2a update as administrator)

I don't remember how I resolved this as it was so long ago, but I do know that the machine I was installing on did not (does not) have any anti-virus software installed... and I guess there could be something running in the background, but that machine is down to bare bones in that respect... Almost nothing running as I use the machine for Sonar only....

What finally got me installed? I don't remember... <sigh>...

    Work Around continued.....

I updated to SP1 and no problems

I am convinced that the recent Windows update messed up something, unknown just yet.
I also think that if Sonar X2 is already fully installed before the recent Windows update you will be fine.  It's just us people that are re-installing X2 that are having this issue..

    More to come....

    WORK AROUND!!!!

So the work around for me was to reformat Windows 7
install drivers for video and audio
Then install Sonar X2 with all add ons
    Then do a Windows Update

    It works fine now

MY way was a bit radical but I wanted to clean up my hard anyway.

The issue is a Windows update file that was downloaded this past week

That is where Cakewalk and Microsoft have to fix it

I had the same problems with

"Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 fai8led with exit code 0x3" and "The program can't start because mfc110u.dll is missing from your computer.

    Here ist my solution:

    1. Deinstall Sonar X2
    2. Delete all Microsoft Visual C++ ... Redistributable Packages (X64) and install only Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable
    3. Install Sonar X2
    4. Install Sonar X2a

    All works fine.
