z3ta+ group buy

12 days left and only 30 units sold so far? Doesn't look good.

I think it was pretty much expected from most people that it would be a failure...the level of discount offered and the [insanely] high number of people needed to jump on board to achieve that discount, all but guaranteed this outcome (the US and Canada only thing didn't help much either).

I think allot of people already own Z3ta. I have been thinking about selling mine, I have been using Absynth 3 for most everything since getting it a week ago.

I've been really considering buying z3ta, but I'm still on the fence about it because of what I'm hearing about Absynth and Rhino... all three seem pretty nice. What made you choose Absynth over z3ta?

A lot of people do own z3ta already. Plus Cakewalk had it on sale for $149 a few months ago. That's what the lowest price on the group buy is. I'm sure the regulars are all thinking "Well I'll wait for when it drops again so I don't have to risk it not going down to the lowest price".

I've been looking at the Vertigo demo lately. With their summer discount, it's only $65.

z3ta is obviously a great synth with a large fan base
but I have the same experience with Absynth
it's the only synth I'm aware of that can do pads/strings, atmospheres, bass, rhythm pulses and insect and acquatic animal noises equally well, while keeping the cpu load at startlingly low levels.
i fear it's in contention for most beloved status with rhino.
maybe if rhino had as extensive a user created library base as Absynth there wouldn't be an issue. For all the whining about Native Instruments, their idea of opening up Reaktor, Absynth and Kontakt to host a database of user created ensembles, patches etc. is really working.

What worries me is the effect this (possibly failed) group buy could have on the z3ta+ product line. We all would benefit if the GB were successful since with a even wider user base, Cakewalk would surely dedicate more resources for the development z3ta+. But what if it flops?

I think that even z3ta+'s group buy price is too high for today's competitive market. P5's own bundling strategy with Dimension, etc. may even be a contributor in driving pricing expectations downward. I went for Sonic Synth 1 for $109.00 on a group buy last year, and would have been tempted to go with this group buy if the pricing for the bottom tier was in the $79-99 range.

Absynth 3 runs a bit buggy for me - sticky notes and occasional lockups. I like the variety of sounds from A3, z3ta+ and Rhino 2, but use z3ta+ the most.

I wouldn't get rid of z3ta+ or Rhino 2 for the world. One reason is that I've added quite a few commercial and free banks and patches to z3ta+. Also, I like z3ta+'s stand-alone mode.

I live in the UK and I'm not sure if that rules me out of the group buy or not. The retail price here is something like £150GBP.

    bye

It does. The GB is for US and Canada only, which IMO was another mistake from Cakewalk (but that's another story).

150 pound is like 250 USD, right? That's quite expensive! I got z3ta+ in last year's group buy (before rgc joined Cake) and the price went down to 90 euro (~ $110 USD). I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise, no matter how good it is, but that's because I have other synths and didn't really need z3ta+, and so far it has been one of my underused synths.

Now that I think about it, I've gotten all my softsynths at a reduced price, either from group buys or second hand: z3ta+ ($110), DK+ ($20), Cameleon5000 ($104), VAZ Plus 2 ($32), Wusikstation 2 BIG PAK ($30). Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard ;-)

No wait, I paid full price for NuSofting PizzaSynth ($5) and 4Front Rhode Pro ($30) cause I wanted to support Luigi and George Yohng. Oh, I feel better now.

It does rule you out of the group buy. You can purchase the download version direct from rgcaudio for around £100 on his website, or etcetera are offering the boxed version for £119 if you are a Cakewalk owner (can't remember if this is for all Cakewalk products or just Sonar owners).

Can they all basically do the same things? From what I briefly read in their descriptions, they basically have the same capabilities (types of synthesis, number of oscillators, etc).
