Probably not as lofty because it is a rock arrangement but this guy was never thinking whether he'd left the cooker on when he was performing and was no doubt the major emotive force behind Bowie's, Ziggy Stardust alter ego.

I saw him perform this live and it took me several weeks to find my way home again afterward.

Just love the way Jan Akkerman bends the strings in "Tommy", lots of passion in that me thinks.

Here's some passion: Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device (warning - contains one instance of the 'f' word).

Released in 1978 as a commentary on the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Inflammable material is planted in my head
    It's a suspect device that's left 2000 dead

    Their solutions are our problems
    They put up the wall
On each side time and prime us
And make sure we get f*** all
They play their games of power
They mark and cut the pack
They deal us to the bottom
But what do they put back?

    [Chorus:]
    Don't believe them
    Don't believe them
    Don't be bitten twice
You gotta suss, suss, suss, suss, suss out
    Suss suspect device

    They take away our freedom
    In the name of liberty
Why don't they all just clear off
Why won't they let us be
    They make us feel indebted
    For saving us from hell
And then they put us through it
    It's time the bastards fell

    Don't believe them
    Don't believe them
    Question everything you're told
Just take a look around you
    At the bitterness and spite
Why can't we take over and try to put it right

We're a suspect device if we do what we're told
But a suspect device can score an own goal
I'm a suspect device the Army can't defuse
You're a suspect device they know they can't refuse
We're gonna blow up in their face

    re Stiff Little Fingers

You are a wicked man Mr. Stevie... my wife just said "I dig this" which translates to  that's "kicking arse mate".

    wicked, wicked, wicked....

Mike, your good lady has exceptional taste!

I'd heartily recommend you get yourselves SLF's first two albums:
I know you're a big Clash fan Mike - and the edge on these guys was just as sharp. But whereas (on their first album) The Clash sang about the state Britain was in during the late '70s, SLF did the same from a perspective of growing up in Belfast amongst the troubles.

Also, these remastered albums (I hope I've got the links to US Amazon right) each contain parts 1 and 2 of Alan Parker interviewing band 'leader' Jake Burns. The third and final part of said interview appears on their third (live) album Hanx! if you're interested.

I was going to submit another song from Inflammable Material (so I might as well) - it's a cover of Bob Marley's Johnny Was about an innocent bystander who gets shot and killed (this version is from Hanx!, the studio version on Inflammable Material is even better but I can't find a decent version to link to).

Burns transposed the lyrics so the story is set in Belfast rather than Kingston - more passion, I think your wife you will agree

Wow! Cool thread! And so many good links here. Good share everyone!

When it comes to passionate music I can ramble on for hours. But since this is a place of international communication I thought I'd bring you something from my shores that I appreciate very much. This is a friend of mine and she probably has the most beautiful voice in all of Norway. And I am not making this up Her name is Siri Nilsen.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ4tgcsmOJs

If you feel like reading on; I know her from the dubbing business - she does a lot of voices for Disney etc in Norwegian. But we've become friends and she's the one who taught me my first chords on a ukulele. First time I heard her sing I could hardly believe what I heard! And first time I saw her live I was all misty eyed and fragile I'm a big fan of hers and have even played with her on stage (I'm very honored by that). She has the craziest way to spellbind her audience too. Very passionate and I hope you will enjoy it too.

    Very nice Project M.

Very nice.... I figure if it connects with me at the melodic level without my having any connection to the lyrics... something special must be going on.

I'm really glad to have learned of Siri Nilsen.

    Thanks!!!

Hey Mike! I'm glad you liked it. I think more people should listen to Siri. I have no problems recommending the listen;)

She does have songs in English and IMO, she should make more songs in English. I'm sure she'd reach a bigger audience with that. Anyways, I took the liberty to translate the song in the link so you can see if you relate to the lyrics as well It's a very quick translate and I tried to make it so it follows her Norwegian phrasing, to some extent anyway. It might not sound as good as it does in the original language, and I may have missed a few good points here. But anyways, If you're curious

Alt Som Er Ingenting – Everything that is nothing

Just like something I do not understand
Where does it all come from?
A kind of melody I can’t get a hold of
    It could have been good

    It is…
    It is… Nothing

    Everything erased every night
When I believe I’m somewhere else
During the small second after I wake up
Until I remember which lives I’m living with

    There are….
    There are… nothing

Like a flower I want to preserve
I put between two pages in a book
I have searched but didn’t find a flower
    I only become wise

    Like something I didn’t dare
Even if it would be ok
Something I should’ve done, before it was too late
    I had you then

    It was…
    Oh, it was…
    It was it was
    Nothing.

I come and go on players like Vai (jealousy, mostly......) - at times the unceasing barrage of notes that always seem to emanate from these guys wears a bit thin.

But then they do something like this - and I stand by in absolute awe of a master of their instrument.  Taste, sensitivity, judgement, an unrivaled commitment to their craft...... and yes - passion.

    Thanks for sharing this one....

+1   Stevie has a lot of soulful footage. The "live from the el macombo" video is exceptional. From what I've heard, he didn't even remember that night - not because it was one of many but because he was so baked at the time. Even then - he had a ton of soul!

Great choice Sean, and very poignant in view of recent circumstances. In fact, it's a great album full stop.

Got me thinking though, how about this great version of Still In Love With You for passion. Here performed by the 'classic' Thin Lizzy line-up, but IIRC Gary Moore co-wrote the song.
