I'm pretty sure I bought this guitar on Monday. I paid for it, and now I'm waiting to see when I get a tracking number.

I really like the wood grain on the top and it will look nice next to my other clear finish nice wood grain guitars. :-)

I hope it sounds good too. If it doesn't I'll make it sound good. :-)

I went for this 2001 version because I learned that, in general, the older Heritage models have slimmer necks as were popular in the late 1980's and I prefer a fatter neck.

It's not clear what pickups it has in it but I knew I didn't want the coil split type that many Heritage enthusiasts seem to think is Heritage's coolest pickup.

I'll wait and find out what I got.

I took ampfixer's advice to heart and I bought this used one after searching out what these guitars actually seem to sell for, which is a lot less than many people seem to ask for them.

I'd love a Gibson L4, but I think I got the next best thing at a price I like.

I'm stoked, it's my first all solid wood jazz-rocker and I figure I'm gonna have fun hugging it while I plink away on the strings. :-)

It sweeter than I imagined, but I think I have realized that the pickups on my other guitars have spoiled me. It could just be from the pre-conception that these are often described as lack luster. They are supposedly stock Schallers with alnico 5's but I guess my collection of specifically chosen pickups mounted in specifically chosen blocks of wood makes for some pretty tough comparisons. I hope I just get used to them because I'm not looking forward to doing wiring work on a hollow body. :-)

The guitar is about 11 years old and as such has the added value of having had a after it settled in set up at some point in it's life. The shop I got it from has a tech that specializes in set ups on hi end jazz boxes. This is just a factory guitar but it seems like the frets were worked over by a guy that knows his stuff.

The description of this particluar instrument had listed a small ding and some very minor scratches... the guitar looks cleaner in real life than the photos or the description indicated. The shop did a great job of telling it like it is... it's always a pleasure to trust someone 2,800 miles away and have it all work out just right.

The packing job was done by a shop that knows how to treat guitars right. There was bubble wrap everywhere. They sell a lot of $5k guitars... it was cool to see that they treated my used guitar the way they would the high end stuff.



The guitar itself seems a bit heavier than I imagined it would be... but that makes me think it's not as fragile as I had been concerned about.


I need to get my fingers calloused up and see what it can do... I think part of that will include finding the amp it makes whoopy with. I've got a Vibrolux Reverb that is ready for a Cap job and some fresh tubes and I'm thinking that may be the one as my other amps tend to be smaller and appreciated for their varied distortion tones. It should take me a year or two to get it all figured out. :-)


Anyways... I'm a happy camper now that I have my guitar for the year safe at home.
