I'm pretty sure I bought this guitar on Monday. I paid for it, and now I'm waiting to see when I get a tracking number.

I really like the wood grain on the top and it will look nice next to my other clear finish nice wood grain guitars. :-)

I hope it sounds good too. If it doesn't I'll make it sound good. :-)

I went for this 2001 version because I learned that, in general, the older Heritage models have slimmer necks as were popular in the late 1980's and I prefer a fatter neck.

It's not clear what pickups it has in it but I knew I didn't want the coil split type that many Heritage enthusiasts seem to think is Heritage's coolest pickup.

I'll wait and find out what I got.

I took ampfixer's advice to heart and I bought this used one after searching out what these guitars actually seem to sell for, which is a lot less than many people seem to ask for them.

I'd love a Gibson L4, but I think I got the next best thing at a price I like.

I'm stoked, it's my first all solid wood jazz-rocker and I figure I'm gonna have fun hugging it while I plink away on the strings. :-)

Good Times.

best regard,
mike

Somebody had to ask:

Did it come with the dulcimer option?

Actually bapu, nobody has to say anything.

It's a choice.

That's exactly what a rational mind would think.

Nice guitar. I'm also not sure about the wooden pickguard; it looks so out of the ordinary. But if it plays as good as it looks, no matter.

I've seen a great many custom guitars with wood use that I really don't care for.

Pickup covers is another. For my taste there is a balance of metal and wood that
I seem to expect and like.
Pickguards in general I can do without. They seem like mudflaps on a car to me.
I like metal knobs on the machines...not wood.
Metal knobs on the pots...and plastic is alright. Plastic pup covers is alright.

I guess it's a question of balance and on the design of the guitar. A tradition style such
as this one....makes me question a wooden pickguard too.

Hi Mike,

Just seen a range of Heritage guitars in Tom Lee's, Hong Kong. They look superb, nowt else to say.

New = not cheap.

Let us know how it plays after a couple of weeks !

Cheers,
Jerry

It arrived last night.

:-)

It sweeter than I imagined, but I think I have realized that the pickups on my other guitars have spoiled me. It could just be from the pre-conception that these are often described as lack luster. They are supposedly stock Schallers with alnico 5's but I guess my collection of specifically chosen pickups mounted in specifically chosen blocks of wood makes for some pretty tough comparisons. I hope I just get used to them because I'm not looking forward to doing wiring work on a hollow body. :-)

The guitar is about 11 years old and as such has the added value of having had a after it settled in set up at some point in it's life. The shop I got it from has a tech that specializes in set ups on hi end jazz boxes. This is just a factory guitar but it seems like the frets were worked over by a guy that knows his stuff.

The description of this particluar instrument had listed a small ding and some very minor scratches... the guitar looks cleaner in real life than the photos or the description indicated. The shop did a great job of telling it like it is... it's always a pleasure to trust someone 2,800 miles away and have it all work out just right.

The packing job was done by a shop that knows how to treat guitars right. There was bubble wrap everywhere. They sell a lot of $5k guitars... it was cool to see that they treated my used guitar the way they would the high end stuff.

The guitar itself seems a bit heavier than I imagined it would be... but that makes me think it's not as fragile as I had been concerned about.

I need to get my fingers calloused up and see what it can do... I think part of that will include finding the amp it makes whoopy with. I've got a Vibrolux Reverb that is ready for a Cap job and some fresh tubes and I'm thinking that may be the one as my other amps tend to be smaller and appreciated for their varied distortion tones. It should take me a year or two to get it all figured out. :-)

Anyways... I'm a happy camper now that I have my guitar for the year safe at home.

Tim if you ever get up here, I'd be honored to listen to you play it. :-)

best regards,
mike

I loved my Heritage guitar but I did modify it. The stock pups never worked for me so I put in a set of Gibson burstbuckers. It was all good after than.

Glad it all worked out Mike. Looked like a sweety to me.
Interesting it has Schaller pickups. Never heard of those. Mine has humbuckers I'm pretty sure.
BTW, all the music I've posted, I just go direct thru a cheap DI into console into DAW.
The 575 should sound pretty nice that way. (not to spoil your amp fun).

Ok, I should be coming to Tallahassee soon I think to collect my winnings when I win the lottery.

Hey Mike, I think you should go for that 575.

In such a deperate search for credibility this would really turn you into 'somebody'.

It's a bargain, what are you waiting for?
