spacey Not to derail the thread but wanted to mention (besides thank you Steve) that after using a handful of those bridges that I found one that had a rattle/buzz and it was stopped by rolling the wheel (saddle) just a little. For whatever reason that wheel in a particular position would rattle/buzz. Only one I've seen do it so far.
This one bridge is actually a novelty for me. The ones I'm used to - on my Epiphone Les Paul's - have that little wire holding back the intonation screws. Which also means you can take out the screws and saddles and reverse the saddles to try and gain a few mm in case of intonation issue. The screws face the pick up. The one on the new SG has the screws and saddles locked into place and the screws facing the stopbar, as such. I'm guessing that it's a modern take on a classic design. Looks more solid but the Epiphone version has its advantages.

And as a sidenote, in regards to my issue w/ my Focusrite Scarlett, I've just received an e-mail with a tracking number stating that my unit had been processed and shipped earlier today. Which is insanely quick considering that they received it yesterday. :) I was expecting much more of a downtime, to be honest. Though it isn't as solid as I'd hope it'd be (which is understandable for such a budget interface) and despite the issue w/ the preamps, I still think the Scarlett was the best option for me. Feature-wise, it has everything I need, I like the design, the direct monitoring dry/wet type of implementation and all. I think this is the 3rd time I've had to contact Focusrite (first 2 times was in regards to software) and each time, they responded promptly and took care of everything in no time. Thumbs up to them for customer support.

5 days later... Despite me washing my hands every chance I get and keeping a little cloth handy to wipe out the wood and hardware... Can't be seen on the pic but the upper part of the bridge also lost a tiny bit of its finish. Obviously the 2nd photo exaggerates things a bit due to the light flashing directly on the guitar. Nevertheless, I can't stress how happy I am to have ended up with this one instead of the white one, considering how quickly I've started wearing out this one.

Those pics are oddly yellowish and make the guitar look as though it had been kept in a smoking lounge full of Russians for a month... :/

Rain, now you have an SG, do you sound like Carlos Santana on Abraxas? Well I'm kidding, but I'm curious to see if you can come close to that sound, having a modern SG. You inspired me to check on the history of the SG. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/ProductSpotlight/GearAndInstruments/sgs-at-woodstock-528/I see Carlos Santana there with an SG with P90 pckups. You know I've never played a guitar with P90's. I should try that one day. I see SG's with pickguards. Your model without the pickguard looks better, but maybe a pickguard would have been handy in your case. 24 frets is cool by the way. When you are inspired you can go places, over the neck, all the way up to the 24th fret. Congratulations on your Gibson SG.

By the Way, it got me thinking, Is it a coincidence that a guy called Santana plays a Satanist Guitar, abbreviated SG?

LOL I wouldn't know. With all due respect for the man and his amazing career, I can't stand Santana's playing - it just seems to be incompatible with the way my ears and my nervous system are geared. For me it's like having a toothache while having someone tickling your feet with a feather while listening to Wagner. After one too many Red Bull. Or a wet willy from hell. That's the effect it has on my nerves. Again, that's got everything to do with me and is in no way intended as a critic of Santana. I've never played a P-90 either. For a while, I was looking at the 50s Tribute SG - which has P-90 in it. If I'd missed the boat for the SGJ, the 50's Tribute was my second option but the P-90 I wasn't so sure about. But then who knows, maybe I'd love it. The 490R and 498T seem to do the job. These days I'm a big fan of using both pick up and creating a balance with the volume knobs with a tiny bit more of the bridge pick up - that through a mildly driven Marshall type of sound, and I managed to get that sound immediately. Seems to work equally well for the rest of the stuff, from the more jazzy to full fledged metal. But I've only had it for 5 days and I've played it unplugged quite a bit of that time, making tiny adjustments and just trying to get to that point where the new guitar just locks into you and where it becomes YOUR guitar, you know? I hit that spot last night I think. And I felt like I should have been playing SGs all my life! The funny thing is that I was looking at those pictures and thinking that, worst case, I could add a pickguard and it would still look nice. But as a said before, I really love the bare-bone aesthetics, and it was one of the selling points for me. Obviously, I'd like the classic red SG with the pick guard, and a white one and a black one - because they're such classics. But otherwise, I find myself more attracted to ones without too much plastic, like the 70s Tribute, which is probably the most awesome of the bunch: But as I said, the pictures were taken with the specific purpose of showing the effect of me playing that guitar. IRL, it's not that obvious, depending on the angle from which you look at it. As a matter of fact, on its stand, the guitar itself looks matte black (wouldn't that be awesome? :P )

From here, it look like that guitar is attaining character. It is inevitable that certain spots on a matte finish will get buffed to a sheen, and this is a reflection on your playing style. If you did that in five days, I'd say you have built a great relationship with the new girl. If nothing else, she's definitely getting some attention.

:) I like instruments that have lived a little, so I'm okay with it. These days, I'm usually playing and/or noodling for 7-8 hours or more, 5 days a week. Between 8 pm and 4 am, it almost never leaves my hands. I may be watching movies or studying or reading or whatever, but I'm practically always playing or practicing scales or improvising and messing around. So I was bound to start wearing off that finish quickly.

By the way, prices dropped again due to Gibson's year end clearance. The SGJ did not seem to be included on other sites, but Sweetwater has them going for $429. A steal, really. I'd grab another one if I could. Or maybe grab one of those sub $500 LPJ or the SG 70s tribute for $519...
