Regardless of the brand I/you favor, it's starting to look real good for an SSD only system.

I can see the appeal there, but what would be the actual real-world benefits of 3Tb of SSD space to warrant the roughly $3600 using the figures you mention in order to do it?
That would be an expensive proposition as you know (even though I've found out today that the SSDs in question can be had for a more reasonable $225.00). I don't have a need for 3TBs od SSD storage space. Not on the system at all times that is. Here's a more realistic appraisal of my needs after 1 year with my dedicated DAW. And USD = CAD in this example.
My 1 year old build cost me approx. $2150 excluding taxes. Approximately half of that amount was for storage...
1] 1 x OCZ Vertex 3 @ 120GBs (111GBs of usable space - OS/Apps/Plugins + Trillian - $300.00)
2] 2 x 600GB Maxtor Velociraptor (1.1 TB of usable space - Samples and current audio projects - $600.00)
3] 1 x 1TB WD Caviar Black (1TB of usable space - Samples - $100.00 --> although this HD was supplied with my purchase of EastWest's CCC libraries, I still took into account the approximate current cost had I purchased it separately)
4] 1 x 2TB Seagate GoFlex External (Backups and archived projects- $100.00)
TOTAL (excluding external storage) = $1 000.00
After 1 year of usage, this is the available storage space I have for each of the above...
1] 55 GBs
2] 650 GBs
3] 750 GBs (I only use approx. 250GBs worth of libraries on my terapack)
4] N/A
Which basically means that I could realistically manage my DAW workload with this onboard "SSD only" configuration...
1] OS :: 1 x OCZ Vertex 4 @ 64GBs = $100.00
2] SAMPLES :: 4 x OCZ Vertex 4 @ 256GBs = $900.00 (4 x $225.00)
3] PROJECTS :: 1 x OCZ Vertex 4 @ 64GBs = $100.00
Add to that a couple of 2TB external USB 3 drives...
4] Archived projects = $100.00
5] Backups = $100.00
TOTAL (excluding external storage) = $1 100.00
Assuming current motherboards offer at least 6 SATA 3 ports and based on my needs, this is achievable today with what I consider to be a reasonable investment and pretty much in line with my 1 year old budget. I get a quiet, cool, reliable (well that remains to be seen/experienced, but the Vertex 4 family is backed by a 5 year warranty, which is better than any mechanical drive on the market today) dedicated DAW that can reside in my mixing room without being heard. In conclusion, if I was in the market today for a new dedicated DAW and knowing what I know about my actual needs, I would not hesitate to set myself up this way. Best bang for the buck? I'm sure Scott and Jim (bless their lovely pro builder souls) are going to be all over me with this one.
