Cliff: Hey, thanks for giving the song a listen and for your comments! To be honest, I think I just got lucky on this song after having writer's block for a month. I was in "The Zone" and everything just fell into place really quickly. Hopefully, my next song won't end up taking 3 months instead of 3 hours! Thanks, Bob ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom: Hi, Tom, I really appreciate your taking time to check out the song and your nice comment. Thanks a lot for listening! Have a good one! Bob

Hey Bob, Solid tune and recording for only 3 hours! Only got access to headphones at the moment while I'm at work, but production wise it sounds like a well balanced mix! Good work! Cheers, Jon

vocals seem a little bit muffled and buried. but....for a 3 hour mix.....hard to criticize the quick work. the harmonies sorta remind me of alice in chains. but...im not sure this is an alt rock tune. sounds more of a late 80s / early 90s type rock sound to me. but....who the hell can actually define labels anymore. ;-)

'Seems highly compressed to me. 'Boston'-style guitar portions are my favorite. -- Extremely professional! Vox rules but not overly so. Now how much of this really took 3:20 hours? It seems impossible to me. So there's still time for a lot of effects and glittering stuff to charge this (in the studio ...) My if-I-must-crit crits are: -- The metal isn't as sweet to my old-fashioned ears as the Boston-style guitar(s) you have going. -- I'd at least turn some of the predictable metal portions into a 4-8 measure series of: distorted wah-wahs, splashing bouncing unpredictable guitar-waves that exploit the stereo-panarama and that transition ... back ... into your original 'drive'. -- IOWs, Your metal-drive/distortion is worthy, commanding, and professional, but too predictable/repeatable for my nerdy interests. -- I'd keep the excellent hook lyrics as-is ... but consider altering/deleting some of the teen-pun-lyrics. Thank you sir for this majestic demonstration!

complex: Hi, Kim, thanks for listening and for your input, it's very much appreciated, my friend! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- joncognition: Hey, Jon, thanks for taking the time to check out the mix and for the encouraging comments! Have a good one! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lee: Thanks a lot for checking out the song! Yep, it seems that the majority of those who listened seem to think the vocals should come up. Today I was A/B ing between the SoundClick MP3 and the WAV file from my test CD and it's amazing how much the vox seem to drop after converting the WAV to MP3 and then the additional squashing down to 128k from SoundClick. I'm planning to try some different MP3 encoders to see if it might make a difference, or maybe trying a separate mix for MP3s. Thanks for your comments! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philip: Thank-you, sir, for listening and for your helpful suggestions! Yeah, I was really trying for a "speed recording" experiment and ran the whole thing in 3:20 from clicking "new project" in Sonar to this rough mix. I'll probably end up spending another three and a half hours on the remix and I still won't be happy! Thanks again, have a great night!

What is it with you guys and your 3 hour attempts? I'm gonna post my next song as a "3 Month attempt." Sheesh! Excellent groove Bob, nice and heavy. Are you micing your amp? Drums are really solid and fit the mix really well. Bass has a phat bottom without being too much. Tasty lead guitar to go with a heavy fundament. Move over James Hetfield! Great vocal and harmony and a good mix too. Well done. Mark by the way, i think I'll disagree with Philip. Typically I detect a Boston influence in your guitar, but this is more bottome heavy, less bright than much of your work, which makes the Boston sound less noticeable. More of a metallica vibe to me.

Hey, Mark, how are you? It's great to hear from you! Thanks for checking out the song. No, I'm not micing on this song, it's my good old TonePort UX2 and GearBox. I went for a little more of a "raw power" sound for the rhythm guitars on this one. I'm hoping to post the remix early next week after fiddling around with everyone's suggestions and ideas. I'm just going to try to clean up the 25 minute mix a little bit to try to get it to "breathe" a bit. Thanks for your input, I really do appreciate it! Have a rockin' night! Bob

Hi, Jimmy, thanks for checking out "Untouchable" and for the kind words! To get that type of sound, I usually bi-amp my heavy guitars when I'm tracking, whether going direct, or micing my real amps, using two different sets of amps, cabs and effects. Then I use different panning positions and different EQ settings to try to fatten and widen the guitar sound in the mix. After years of playing on the road in heavy metal bands in biker bars, I determined that the contrast of the different distortion guitar sounds is what really thickens up the "wall" for me. By the way, I really enjoyed "Tribute To Steive" on your SoundClick Page! Really "tasty" song, nice work! Have a great night! Bob

Sounds a bit like a Van Hallen tune to me... ( Have you seen Junior's Grades??? ) 3 hours work ... Not bad at all!!! ... I like the sound you get out of your leads... Vox are very well done as well. Bass and Drums drive it home ... Very, Very Nice for 3 hours of work ... I think some of our best work just kind of comes out really quickly like that and it's hard to keep up with it as it pours fourth. -- TAP --

Bob - Great job at getting this song within 3-hours. It's one thing to do an instrumental in a short time, but with vocals, this is very impressive. You've nailed the guitar tone. I liked every part of the song. Having the foundation of the song completed after 3 hours means you don't have much left to do to call it done.
