32 AND 64 bit Platinium - only the last install runs?
Never bothered to install previous 64 bit version of Sonar (X1, X2 or X3) this time I thought I try both, still mainly use 32 bit plug-ins, in any case: I install 32 bit version of Platinum and all is fine it runs. Then I install 64 bit version (DIFFERENT directory) all is fine - it runs but the 32 bit will not run any more - it starts then just quits. So I re-install 32, again the 32 bit version runs fine but now 64 bit wont run, and on and on ping pong multiple installs, no joy. Obviously there is a trick here that I'm missing Thx for any help/advice (and yes I want both verisons installed and working) Larry

Bump Can someone at least confirm that you can, or NOT, install both 32 and 64 bit versions on same PC for X3? Thx

Oh, I hope this is a bug that gets fixed.

I didn't say it was broke or a bug I just want to know if it's doable? If it is I am probably doing something wrong on how I install - if it's not then, I'll leave the Platinum at 64 bit install and use X3 for 32 bit and my issue is moot.

I've been reading about Sonar Platinum before I get my code for DL. I wonder if this is the same issues I have with X3pro 64 bit. I get a Bit bridge error with some of my plugins and many not even loading in VST search. At one point I gave up on it and uninstall and reinstall in32bit mode to run all plugins. I see that Bit Bridge is a feature in Sonar Platinum. So maybe the same bug? just a guess on my part. peace

Can you check where your two install paths are? For x32 it should be C:\Program Files(x86)\ and for x64 it should be C:\Program Files\ What your describing almost sounds as though they're installed to the same directory. I'd also check your shortcuts against the two executables to make sure everything looks right.

I installed 64-bit first by accident. It did not do a good job replacing 32-bit plugins with 64-bit ones, esp. prochannel & melodyne, even though I have installed the 64-bit versions thereof. So I installed the 32-bit version, and then I noticed that 64-bit Sonar is not in Windows 7 Control Panel "programs and features", so not available to be uninstalled. However, my 64-bit Sonar still runs.

"you talking to me?" If you are asking me, then no Sonar Platinum 64 bit and SP 32 bit are installed in different directories and the shortcuts to each point to the correct path and .exe, again just want to know if it's doable. I've got a tech support email out to CW since last Friday on same question but suspect it will be many, many weeks (if ever) to get a direct official answer (just my experience with Tech Support since about Sonar 6'ish (?)/w MS OS Vista - and I completely skipped over Vista) .

Thx but already read that and a few others.- Besides this has nothing do with getting 32 bit plugins to work in 64 sonar (I KNOW they do) For others that read this - this is NOT that subject (32 or 64 bit plugin in functionality), also don't want to debate the "why do you want both versions," which inevitably will come up, just want to know if: yes you can or no you can't, Fairly straight forward question.

bump Can no one definitively answer if you can install BOTH a 32 bit AND a 64 bit version of Sonar (any dual capable version 6, 7, 8, 8.5, X1, X2, X3, current 2015 Pro/Platinum) and have BOTH work? (again YES install in different directories) thx

Bluesplayer - I normally run 32-bit but I had 64-bit installed due to a similar experience as you. I was going to say "I think they both run fine" but I just tried to run SONAR 64 and I got the following message after opening a project: "The following VST failed to load:C:\Program files (x86)\cakewalk\shared utilities\internal\Console Emulator\Console Emulator Bus_32.dll" And this was opening a template, not a full project, that as far as I know doesn't have any Console Emulator active... So, basically, no, they don't both run happily - at least, not on my system, after my install sequence.

I have both versions installed on my machine and both work fine. you can install both versions and both will work. I don't know why it is not working for you. I used the Command Center for the first install then I went to the files on the computer and installed the 32 bit version from there Does it crash when you try to start the other version. or will the other version start at all? When you install the last version do you see a new shortcut or does it replace the shortcut you already have? Did you use the Command Center for your first install or did you download the program to register your computer off line?

Sorry I just seen that the shortcuts point to the logical directories. I am sorry your having difficulties. I am not sure what the issue is.

Yes you can have both 32 & 64 bits install on same computer. I do. I look at, and treat the 32 bit as an older program. So, if I create a new program in 32 bit and then load that into 64 bit everything is fine, until I save in 64 bits. At that point I would not try to load that program back into 32 bits. Much of this is explained in Sonar help and read me files.

Symptoms are not catastrophic or even very helpful to isolating "issue." The next to the last install starts, e.g., Platinum logo comes up, then just simply quits. No errors, no lingering half loaded drivers, nothing left in RAM, it just stops. and I can run the LAST installed version (32 or 64) right behind this "crash" with no ill effects. I just went back and tried this with X3 - identical behavior (installed 64 first, then 32 second: 64 bit won't start but 32 will start: then reversed install order of X3 (32 then 64) and which version that runs is reversed.) OH well (BTW this is WIN 7 64 but it should make no difference) edit: This has nothing to do with opening songs saved in "other" version - just opening program has issues
thanks for helping

Just something to ponder. I gather from this "then reversed install order" that you have uninstalled & reinstalled on more than one occasion. The question is, did you do a FULL uninstall on BOTH versions and delete the necessary registry keys? There are detailed instructions on how do do this somewhere on the forum.

I've run 32 and 64 bit versions side-by-side, I think around X2 time. Can't really remember the setup details, but it definitely worked fine. My strong suspicion here is that you've got them both installed, but for whatever reason, your shortcut icons are pointing the same version. Have you tried looking for them in the start menu? You should see both versions there.

Ah, hang on, ignore that. I see from your last post about it failing to start up that you have a different issue. Hmm, odd.

I join scook in encouraging you to call tech support. This shouldn't be happening. Like others here, I have 64 bit and 32 bit versions of X3e(Studio) and SONAR2015(Professional) installed, as well as SHS6XL(It's dated, but it just plain works). I do have an issue with both 64 bit X3e and SONAR crashing on save or exit, but that seems to be related to jbridge, or the fact that I am running a 64 bit system on 4Gb RAM. This happened before I installed the 32 bit versions, and actually the 32 bit versions are rock stable on my system. At any rate, I can open and run any version at will. I'm not suggesting that you don't have a legitimate problem, just answering the question. Yes they can peacefully co-exist. List your system specs in your signature. That may offer up some clues. Good luck. I hope you get this resolved.
