Hi Craig, <quote> " I cannot tell you how much I learned about mixing by watching Jimi Hendrix work on Electric Ladyland" </quote> (don't know how to quote correctly :-).) Whoa, did you really!! I know it's much to ask, but I would really love to hear more about that, one of my alltime favorite albums. What about 'Voodoo Child' With Jack Casady and Steve Winwood, and 'All Along The Watchtower', best single ever made.

mixmkr Craig...I sent a PM (actually twice now), but my PM account doesn't show anything sent to you, even though after sending it, it said "message successfully sent to Anderton". Any rate...I tried on this end!
The PMs are showing up. Actually, you should know that this whole idea of visiting people started because you mentioned you're in Kentucky, which isn't that far from here. Because you do SONAR videos, I thought it would be cool to see if you'd be up for a visit, and we could do a basic video on "How to Create SONAR Videos." And then I thought "well if I'm going to be in Kentucky anyway, maybe I could visit some other users." So if you like this idea, in the immortal words of Herman Cain..."blame yourself."
This sounds great. I tend to think what I'm doing might underwhelm the normal crowd here, but I know it would be fun to do and hopefully useful to some.

Do the simplest first: Visit to Nashville real soon The one person CRAIG video creation tour during late summer/ autumn And then year of a monthly 1-2 day seminars in many population centers, like Lansing, Michigan. Maybe starting in Kalamazoo, the birth city of Gibson. In summer 2016 at least a 3 day Gibson 114th Birthday Party in Nashville.

This is close to what Fractal was doing (or is doing) for Axe Fx owners. It was called Axefest, held in US and Germany every year and perhaps elsewhere. I am not up to date since I ditched my Axe Fx for TH2 but remember there were hundreds of happy attendees. I guess if Nashville is successful, Craig and Gibson would be motivated to do it in Europe too. I would love to be a part of it!

Hey everybody, wanted to give an update. Right after posting this thread I got a nasty fever/flu. Today was my first day back in the office but I'm not 100% yet. The Nashville showroom would be a great place to meet, but is undergoing renovations that won't be complete for about two months. However early June isn't so far away, and it would be a good housewarming party. I'd prefer to wait as opposed to renting a conference room in a Holiday Inn or whatever...it would be a much better vibe. As soon as it seems we can lock in a date, we'll make it happen. So far everyone at Gibson thinks it's a great idea, so I don't think there will be resistance when it reaches the proposal stage. BUT we could do the "mini-tour" beforehand. It would need to be after Frankfurt Musikmesse but before the second half of May, so it's looking like possibly last week of April/early May. I'm checking through the PMs to see if there's a way to do the logistics that doesn't involve excessively long drives between cities. Then I need to come up with a budget and submit a proposal, although I'm quite sure it will be approved. As a general comment, mixmkr said "I tend to think what I'm doing might underwhelm the normal crowd here, but I know it would be fun to do and hopefully useful to some." The whole point of this mini-tour is to see how real people use SONAR in the real world, and it doesn't matter if it's someone in a corner of a bedroom or in a million dollar studio. I've never seen a situation where two people who love recording got together and didn't learn something from each other. This is gonna be fun! Thanks everyone for your responses. I'll be getting in touch with you individually soon. And if there are any others who want to be considered for the mini-tour, now's the time to send me a PM with your location.

If you like that kind of thing, check out the " Bedtime Stories from Uncle Craig" at the end of my Cakewalk "Meet the Bakers" blog post. As to Hendrix, he was always rather shy and unassuming, even when I first met him before he left for England and was still going under the name Jimmy James. The main thing I got from watching him mix was his total focus and level of concentration. You could tell he was analyzing every little sound, and nothing was casual or insignificant. He took his work very seriously. We had sessions booked between the Hendrix and Vanilla Fudge slots. By the time we came in, Eddie Kramer had usually left and Tony Bongiovi (yes, from that family) was still doing the session work...convenient, because he also worked on our albums. So the flanging on the Mandrake album "Medium" was made with the same gear Hendrix used, which was kinda cool. We did blow up a capstan motor once, though, when we took the speed too low. I don't think that endeared us to Gary Kellgren. Winwood wasn't there when we were recording, but often Chris Wood would be the one to let us in. Traffic hung out at Steve Paul's The Scene a lot, and saw us play...I think I may have been the first synth player Steve Winwood ever saw on stage, this was early 1968. I asked him about that several years ago, he wasn't sure but said it might very well have been the case. BTW I saw Steve Winwood open for Tom Petty a couple months ago, and he definitely still has it. Some people thought he upstaged Petty...Winwood certainly had the audience in the palm of his hand. Great singer, great songwriter, nice guy...definitely deserves the long career he's had.

Well, I vote for Memphis, with the music heritage there and cheap. From Nashville you are only a couple of hours away. The great thing about Tennessee if you drive to either end your almost halfway to anywhere else, east/west anyway.

I read your blog last year, and enjoyed just as much after re-reading it! Townes definitely followed the "write what you know" path! LOL Though I hate to admit you aren't coming over, I truly hope this thing explodes/expands! Pour it on! I have to consider the Nashville one, so best wishes on the planning stages. I am really looking forward to getting to come to this party! Michael
