In fact looping and comping takes in Record is even fun again.

It wasn't Record that I tried, but I will back the words "fun again" when I did a trial of a different DAW. The full features of Sonar were not there, but the ease of use (which translates to speed) and flawless audio made me really enjoy trying it.

This is not enough to make me switch, and many people may not care one way or the the other. I just know I enjoyed it, and would like to see improvements in that area.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

I'm wondering what problems with gapping people are having. Sure, Sonar is not the most absolutely solid app out there for on-the-fly work, but it can do it, and possibly to a greater extent than it might seem. Selecting "Always Open All Devices" in the audio options can make a whole bunch of drop out problems go away. I suspect this may not be widely known.

I just checked my settings, and sure enough "Always Open All Devices" was not checked. I turned it on, but I'm not convinced it will make any difference for me. I only use a stereo main out, and a headphone pair - which are always on at all times. But - I'll give it a try to see if it makes a difference at all

The dropouts I get are very minimal, and never kill the song (well - rarely). It's as if you can hear the tech unplugging devices, and plugging in others (little pops and crackles). On the other DAW there was nothing! The song just kept playing. It was a treat!

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

It helps with a specific set of things; changing sends and outputs on the fly can be less problematic with it, depending on various factors.

I use a simple EZdrummer beat (in my templates).  It is so much better than the "tick-tock" of the metronome.

Rather than just working without a need to stand on your head with your big toe on the left foot pointing North?

I like the idea of stuff just working.  I'm kinda old-fashioned that way.

btw the example I just gave in the other app. it may be of interest to note all devices were enabled.

Repeat after me and see if it hurts; 'Sonar could do better in this respect, the evidence is out there in most every other app. you can name.'

And exactly how do you change outputs on the fly pray tell me when you've just disabled them all?

didn't Cakewalk advertise a "Hapless Audio Engine" with Sonar 4 ??
I doubt that was advertised.

But it would've been pretty great if they did.  Ya gotta love self deprecation...if it's honest.

...exactly....

...that's how it felt like after playing, in my case, with REAPER for a while.... ANY change, inserting, removing, re-routing, ecc., can be made in real time... the song just goes on playing with no interruption nor crackle nor glitch or whatever.......!

...only pressing stop on transport would stop the engine......... that's rock solid........!

Sure, I keep SONAR as it brings a whole deal of editing tools, instruments and fx, almost an entire studio out of the box, but its Audio engine STILL sucks in comparison with the others'.... and that's become a real shame these days...

...about time to fix this serious gap....
