A Friend bought 8.5 with theunderstanding that he could d/l X1
I know this has been talked about but I couldn't find it with the searches here... He bought it from Musician's Friend and has installed and registered 8.5 How does it work from here? Much thanks... Keni

Chregg does it not say on the website the time line that you qualify for the free upgrade What do you mean? He bought it during the correct time if that's what you mean and from a supported vendor... I was wondering if he has to do something to instigate being sent the links/passwords/etc. or will it automatically be sent? Thanks for the thoughts... Keni

Keni....I went thru the same problem. I bought my 8.5, registered it and waited. I kept going to the store...waited for links....(repeat what I just said about 50 times) until: I called Cakewalk Support-waited for about 15 minutes, talked to Lars and Ben (Techs) and they sent me links and the serial number for installation. It took CALLING to get something done. Since then things have been painless... tell your friend to call 800-CAKEWALK (when the automated operator answers dial 2 then wait for about 15-20 minutes) As long as your friend is registered it should be easy from there. They are only open Monday-Friday till 8pm EST. Hope this helps! Cheers Tj

Thanks TJ... that's exactly the info I needed. He's already registered and I'm on my way there for a lesson in a couple of hours so I will pass on the info. Do you know if it's ok to share the d/l I have and use his own serial and registration numbers? Keni

That one I can't answer....I don't know if the serials are encrypted only for certain downloads. I would imagine there is a 30 trial period adjacent to this program. (There has been in the past) Try and see....that would be the direction I would go. Smiles Tj

They can email customer service. Go here and click email customer service. http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Contact.aspx#top Enter the serial number and email address. They will be taken to a page where one of the choices is : KB2007013214 - I purchased SONAR 8.5/Home Studio/XL 7 after Nov 1st. Where is the email for my SONAR X1 download? Click on that and click on the choice of product they purchased. I did this and it solved my problem of not receiving the mail for the free upgrade. They can also call customer service.

Thanks Gang... Hopefully, one of the cake team will chime in and tell me but if not he'll find out when he calls in for the links and serial#... Keni

Keni Do you know if it's ok to share the d/l I have and use his own serial and registration numbers? Keni Yes you can take all your downloaded files and install it wherever you like... even on someone elses PC. Everyone downloaded the same files from Cakewalk. Once installed, X1 will open and require you to input a Serial Number & Registration Number. As long as they are vaild numbers you can install and use X1 wherever you like. So... To run Sonar there is no online checking, or dongle, required! All you need are the downloaded files (or the files on a disc/DVD) with a set of Serial & Registration Numbers. Think of it this way. You didn't actually buy the downloads. What you actually bought was a serial and registration number to run the program. Cakewalk will soon give away (for free) the downloaded files and call it a "Trial Version". To make it work fully you will need to buy just a Serial & Registration Number from them.
