A Plea To Roland/Cakewalk

To whom it may concern,
I think I can safely assume that I speak for most, if not all of this community on this subject.

PLEASE, at least consider doing something with the forums software or servers, what ever the problem may be.
This is getting ridiculous.

Random font changes (ie: my font size shows as 1 yet it regularly is defaulted at 2. Then it types out like it's set on 3 bold), extremely slow page loading, every different browser I've tried all have weird quirks.
So far Chrome and Opera seem to work best but having to download and change browsers in this day and age is flat out embarrassing and uncalled for.

Roland is not a small company and their electronic instruments and Boss pedals are some of the best in the world. They have excellent quality control and should be ashamed of themselves for allowing something associated with their name to remain this buggy for so long.

I'm not sure who has the ability to make the call to rectify this issue but could someone at least bring it up in the next meeting that something has to be done with the forums?

I thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

Mike Graef

Unfortunately, you are far from the first to point out problems with this website.

Cakewalk recognises the problem, but obviously (and amazingly) doesn't consider it a priority.

    A bit like VS-700 support.

You can enter text in quick reply using Opera on Android but it's a bit of a pain.

A year or so ago someone from CW said they had plans to update the forum.

Guess they plan to do that around the time they update the Staff View in Sonar.

I haven't had any problems with the forum software, as long as I keep my responses to one paragraph (Firefox) and don't quote anyone.

    Same here.
    Depends on the day though.
    And maybe the weather outside.

But I can pretty much always read the forums.
Except when I get the "nothing to display" message, obviously.

But the rest of the times, it almost works as it should every now and then.

Well it's official, this forum doesn't work on my new Nokia Lumina 920 Windows Phone 8, I can't get the keyboard to come up when I want to "Quick Reply" or when I click to "Reply to messsage" I am typing this in FFox. And I have tried Chrome with mixed results. It seems to go real slow in Chrome. IE seems to work best for me over here. I also am on Win8 on this PC.

As far as viewing on Android phones is concerned, Cakewalk forum is far better than PreSonus forum, whose pages keep scrolling back to the chaotic picture at the top every ten seconds or so (several users have confirmed this), and the text in most posts don't get wrapped.
    - If you've never seen the picture:
    http://forums.presonus.com/forums/list.page

And, as for viewing and posting on the Cake forum on a PC, I don't seem to have any problem (Win7 + Google Chrome), except for chokes that happen once in a while (which I thought were due to site maintenance...).

I'm sure Roland sees the forum as a non value added activity. It's free, so it's likely at the bottom of the priority list. If they got a nickel for each post this thing would be fixed.

I've noticed the performance of this forum decline over the last few months. The formatting problems have always been there, but at least it used to load pretty fast for me back when I first joined. Now, I frequently have to wait 5 or more seconds for anything to load. Sometimes it doesn't load at all. It really makes you feel differently about using the forum. Before, I'd check in on the posts nearly every time I had a free moment when I was working. Now, I think about checking in and decide against it because I'm going to have to put up with those irritating delays.

I don't buy that they "don't have time" to fix it or that it's "not in the budget." This isn't time consuming, big budget stuff. I've seen small non-commercial forums run by volunteers get updated and improved overnight. It would take them a couple of days at the most.

I really don't understand why they don't do it. If they're sitting there thinking that the forum doesn't affect the commercial image of Cakewalk then they're sorely mistaken. People who are shopping for a DAW, for example, are going to check the relevant forums first. And when they find an outdated, buggy forum that takes an age to load, they're going to wonder if the product is of a similar quality. It's not just the performance of the forum, it's the look. It looks like a computer programming forum from the late 90's or something.

Sometimes the page load will stall and wait on owneriq.net a long time, sometimes more or less forever.

So at least some times it may not be Cakewalk's 'fault'.

(I hate third-party cookies and refuse them which may slow things down even more)

I agree it's gotten much worse lately and I often go do something else instead of wait.

    Amen Sharke.
I used to check in on the SOS forums a few years back. I know they must have fixed it because I was there the other day and it was running smooth.
But for years I stopped going there because the pages took so long to load.
Every time I went to read something I'd sit and wait till I got annoyed and would just close the page.
One day I found The Womb and started reading there instead.
I only started going back to SOS recently because someone here linked to an article and noticed it didn't suck anymore.
I have nothing against SOS but it became habit to not go there. Even tho it's fine now it's just not my first thought.

I do find myself going there to read now when these forums play the spinning circle game.
Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

For what it's worth, those are my reasons why I've not been taking part as much here. Major wait time for viewing, posting, private messages, forum options not working right, it's just lame and really a nuisance these days. Not to mention, the lack of moderating in certain instances is beyond pathetic. I've seen a few guys get banned for stupid stuff when other guys should have been banned for life and no one did a thing.

Another thing that whoever has the power to make a difference on this forum needs to think about is...no other forum on the planet offers tech support from other users as good as this place does. Seriously...nothing else compares. Take that away, or make it more difficult for others within the community to help others and you can really have a bunch of restless, angry users. Does anyone have any idea as to how many possible calls to tech support this forum has helped to eliminate? If I'm working at Roland or Cakewalk, I'm going to have the best forum software around just because of that.

Not to mention, this place sells products. How many times have we heard news on here before it's shown up in our in boxes via email? Right, too many times to mention. They can say what they want about this forum or how it may not be important enough for new software, but let me tell you, it's an awesome tool for the sale of anything Cakewalk. People not only tell you if stuff is good, bad or worth a shot, they show you how to use it and actually care that you find ways to make this stuff work.

At any rate, this place in my opinion is a pretty crucial part of the Cakewalk/Sonar name. They do themselves an injustice leaving this software running the way it has been. There are lots of guys here that are way better and more important to this community than I will ever be. However, if they too are experiencing the issues I have, it's only a matter of time before they say "screw it" also.

I think it's both sad & ironic that companies that sell software #1 - DAWs - [Cakewalk, Presonus], won't bother to fix there software #2 - forums.

Sure it's free to use, but 999 out of a 1000 most likely paid or will pay for some type of product or another, otherwise they probably wouldn't be here.

Fwiw, after years of no problems with FF, I finally had to install Chrome about 3 months ago, [which I never wanted to do], just to post on here.

Otherwise, it's just one big long paragraph with no preview at all.

Shameful! Doesn't show much concern for their customers.

Here's a thought - hire Seth, Brandon & Robin back, and get yourt sh*t together starting with proper glitch fixes, updates & forum restructuring.

Show us failthful that we actually count - more than just our dollars do!

    Bump.
It's Monday and the office is open.
Lets hope someone is flipping through the forums here while having their morning coffee.

I'm not sure this is something that I should put in as a feature request.
Anyone know of a 'problem reporter' type of thing for this website?
I'd like to get this into the proper hands and not just hope that someone stumbles upon this thread.

You should probably take this up with Roland.
