My Apologies Robby, I've had some technical problems lately with these monitor speakers and short I recently fixed and I was flat out wrong about your mix, and a few others also. I apologize. It sounds great to me now!! I'm sorry man. :-( Bobby

Sweet version. Your vocals seem to get better with age, like a good chardonnay. I think you need something in the middle beside the vocals. Felt a bit too wide.

This kind of track shows what an accomplished musician/singer you really are, and that's very accomplished to my ears. I'm not very receptive to this kind of music to be honest, but i can definintely appreciate what a great job you've done with this track. The mix sounds really intimate and live, which is just perfect for this type of track. Nice work all-round Robby.

Let's just say "its been awhile." Thanks Grant :-) It's somewhat rare for me to poop one out like this? Explosive songariah? Where you just can't control it? You get home, and you are "literally" running for the studio? And when you reach the console, and have the pre-amps powered up? It's like Ahhhhh, thank GOD! This is one of the most satisfying recording sessions in memory! I feel SO much better having gotten that out! I'm planning a more epic vocal piece, and working on a few colabs (as you know ;-) Haven't forgotten about ours. The boy comes every other week for some time, and when that happens it's a full on stop in the studio? And then there's "life?" Life sucks, I wish I didn't have to do it... It takes so much time? And I have a few in the oven with my favorite collaborator, Mr. no999! I'm sorry, but he's just dreamy :-)

You gotta love the wood and steel :-) Although it could also be the title to an alternative lifestyle video? But in this case, it's all about the wood (wooden instruments) and steel (the strings.) There's something primal about it? I mean it goes back? It goes way back... It's what you would hear 100 years ago, or 200 years ago? And something about that makes it special to me. It's not my normal thing, but I love the wood and steel... It takes music back a ways? Before we had fancy DAWs. And fancy Mics and whatnot, people were making good music with wood and steel? And also brass and reeds? But I'm not that guy, but I do love the wood and steel. So much good music written and played with just that, and vocals.

OK, this is how it works with me? I hear something in conversation? And I say, "There's a song in there somewhere!" Or, "That's the title to a song!" And I think I just did it to myself (but that's another story for another forum...) "Wood and Steel..." I think it's a song title? And I think I'm going to write it? A good grass tune... I may call in a favor from a certain fiddle player... It's just an idea for a title at this point? But this is how it happens with me... If history repeats itself (which it does) this will turn in to a kickass song.

I love it when a plan comes together :-) Thanks everybody! Working on a very aggressive colab w/mister no999 right now... This weekend will be spent "practicing" the bass line... Practicing? What a concept! We all like to perform? But sometimes, we have to practice before we can record? Mister no999 is a relentless taskmaster and accepts nothing less than perfection. So I'm going to practice before I comp it in.

Hi Robby, Great choice of a tune to cover. It's almost pointless to comment on the vocal because your vocals are always outstanding Excellent 'live' sounding instrumental performances and a great, clean mix! Well done!

Made a meal tonight that went quite well with this :-) GUMBO! It started as a Rue (Butter and flower) cooked for a bit, then the green peppers, celery and onions, hot peppers (habenaro and jalapeno) Chicken stock, chopped tomatos, long grain rice, then after simmering, (cooked earlier) the andoville, stone crab claw meat, chicken and the pealed and deveined shrimp... Yes, oh yes, it was every bit that good... And then some. A few other "secrets" to make it special, but Gumbo? Gumbo like you wish your mama made... It rocked "HARD" and went well with a nice backwoods country tune like this :-) And I have 3 big containers left to re-heat... My cooking is every bit as good as anything I've ever recorded, maybe better? It was the kind of meal you eat, "and then talk about for days..."

The bass adds the low end that was missing, but a standup would hold true to the rest of the acoustic folk instruments in use. You might want to hear that before you wrap this one up.

Wonderful stuff Robby I know your voice has a different timbre, but there's something about your performance on this song that reminds me of the Jim Reeves records that my dear old mum used to listen to when I was a kid. Maybe it's the heartfelt delivery, I'm not sure, but it sure works for me.

Nice job. I like the writing. Great hook. I second James' comment about your vocals..... you are hitting your stride on recording good vocals. Nice job all the way around. My only nit has to do with a few minor phrasing issues. Had I written or assisted on the write..... I might have suggested this>>>...woke me up With a kiss.... <<< that would flow better.... more natural. But I didn't. I really like it.... it has a natural feel to it and ..... damn fine job.

Sounds great! Nice mix - harmonies - very crisp and clear. Vocals are top notch as usual - such a rich and expressive voice. And you delivered the instrumental performances just right. 4 hours? I would have never guessed that. And without metronome the performances are really tight. Great job!

yeah, I like to think about our people on which we build? In their studios... They didn't have the punch-in? They couldn't comp it. They didn't have the wide array of tools we have at our disposal? Consiquently, I believe they were just better "because they had to be?" We have it so much easier here now, with all of the tools, all of the power, editing, etc... There are still great musicians, but the technology removes that as a requirement almost each day...

Yes, we do have it "easy" in many respects, and technology makes it easier everyday to create music that was impossible just a few short years ago..... ........ but one thing has not changed. It still takes the human creative mind and spark of inspiration to write the songs.
