A blast from the Grassed

I usually work on a song "for weeks?" To get it as good as I can get it.

Tonight I decided to crap one out? I set out to do this earlier today.

So I picked an old Bluegrass tune by one of my favorite bands, "the Seldom Scene" They didn't write it, it was actually written by Paul Overstreet. But I've always loved it? And I thought it was something I could push out in an evening.

My goal was 2 hours? It took 4. But that included the production plans, the performances (guitar, dobro, and mandolin + the vocals)

It's imperfect? But it's got soul :-)

Nothing in a box? It's just me, and it's a bit raw, no metronome? Just me and the wooden instruments,

The guitar
The dobro
And the mandolin
And some vocals. All recorded tonight.

*Recently added holophone track (it's down in the mix...)

*the holophone is a make believe instrument from Futurama.

:-) I hope it helps make your day better.

It's at the top; "Walking Shoes"

So this is as close as I can get to a live performance. It's actually the 1st remix posted based on my own critiques.. It's nice to be able to look at the wave? I have Soundforge where I do that after I export it from Sonar. I recommend it? But there are other programs that do a good job as well.

But I recorded it "this evening?" using Sonar. Fun stuff :-) Because again, it was essentially a live recording.  And done start to finish in 4 hours :-)

Very nice Robby. Nice and clean. The mix sounds open and airy and suits the song very well. You must have been up late!

Great cover!  You have to love a song with a dobro and a mandolin in it.  I'm with Scotty. . . a stand up bass would of sounded nice to help hold the low end of the mix.  I really like the raw vibe the mix has.  If I had to nit-pick the mix. . . I would back the verb/delay off the vocals a smidge.  The verb gives it a more studio polished sound and takes away from that live vibe IMO.  Outstanding job for a 4 hour production!  KUDOS!

Robbie, The song sounds great and the bass fits in just great. As always your vocals stand out the best. Great production and a very nice version. I especially liked the picture of the shoes, kind of fit the song for sure. Nice cover.

After looking at that picture of Vida, I spanked that butt just a little bit harder? (I pushed the bass a bit more too.)  I'm hoping I didn't get carried away? I don't want it to be like a pregnant Kim Kardashian? You know, as Sir Mixalot would say? It's not little in the middle and it has WAY TOO MUCH BACK!!??

Just learning this is a cover. I'm not familiar with it but another great one to do a tribute for. Superb playing on all instruments. I'm starting to think you own a music store with all that gear. Vocals... masterfully done. Mix sounds top notch here.

Nice performance.   Vox are outstanding and the mix is quite nice as well.....   Sounds very homegrown bluegrass  except for the electric bass.   I would try a acoustic fretless to keep it all together but overall superb work.   Have not heard this song but enjoyed it..
