I'm experimenting with a Strat 'body' with two Gibson 'pickups' at the moment - luverly!

There's only one way to rock and that, my friend, is it.

Nice aquisitons Strummy. My offer still stands... I will be happy to test out your variax and workbench software to make sure it all works and is up to snuff for producing music. Simply send it to my address by special courier and I'll take care of the rest.

No problemo Doc

You'll need to send me the airfare for the items in question though.

About UK£1200 should be enough.

I'm surprised that Doc is interested in something without a sticky blue paint job.

'Tis my new slimline image Doc.

Short and sweet.

Straight to the point.

You know, not using 1,728 words when four will do.

Not sort of beating about the bush and such like.

Quick.

Decisive.

No flannel.

No faffing about.

No waffle.

Hang on, need to find the next page on my thesaurus........

I've not had the pleasure - you should post a link or two in the Metallica thread.

RE: Bass Thread Resurrection 2008/11/18 12:05:49 (permalink)
Hi all,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice regarding the purchase of a bass primarily for home recording. I ended up buying an Ibanez SR500, which was actually a bit (well more than a bit) out of my original price range. The guitar is beautiful mahagony and felt really light, yet solid. It is a full scale bass, which after reading several the comments here and playing a few of both, was what I really wanted. The neck is thin and comfortable. All in all, the guitar just felt right and sounded right. Its probably more bass than I will ever need, but given that I intend to keep for a lifetime, its money well spent.

I will make an editorial comment here. I actually travelled 250 miles to the guitar store (not a chain) where I bought my first two guitars, to shop for this bass. I paid a little more than I would have on-line for it but I got it set up for me in the store as I was checking out. I also got a very nice bag for it. I also played several 6 and 12 strings while mulling my purchase decision and two things really struck me - all the guitars were very playable (obviously set up before put out in the show room) and the sales people were extremely knowledgeable. I have not seen this in any of the big chain stores (you know who I am talking about) - most of the guitars don't feel good or sound good and I won't even start on the sales people. Additionally, the luthier who set up my guitar gave me his email, so that if I had questions or needed to tweak the set up he could answer them.

So Santa should be able to spend a little extra time at your houses this year, because he doesn't have to deliver anything to me. Thanks for all the input.

Dave,

Congrats on your new bass! You'll definitely be glad you got a bass that you want instead of settling for less. I could have saved some serious dollars if I had just spent a little more in the first place. I've really run into that with mics, I'm still left wanting rather than being happy with what I have.

Before long everyone here will be getting new basses and the economy will be saved!

When I was a kid we had to use Portastudios, uphill! both ways!!
