mixmkr you apparently have to submit to Presonus that you own Cakewalk, to get a "code" from them to be qualified to buy the crossgrade. Read the blog at Presonus (or it's linked on other threads here). Says it may take a couple days to receive your code. Basically you send a pic (screen capture) of your Sonar CCC page or your Sonar "info" page....or sales receipt.
I think if you buy from JRR you have to send them the documents (screenshot serial #) and they send it to Presonus. There isn't a place to but in a code you would receive from Presonus on JRR just a way to upload an image.

I am just slightly confused. The box in the ad at JRRshop shows Studio One 3. The little videos on that ad page are of versions 3 and 3.2. Although the most recent version of the demo I just got is 3.52 So at JRRshop, are we getting v3, 3.2, or v3.5? the original pasted note of Rick Naqvi doesn't mention any version. What convention of advertising, selling and acquiring software am I missing here? I do experience old versions of software are usually at significant discounts.

Version 3 will get you v3.52. Presonus have not charged for point releases as of yet.

Yeah. Presonus have been very generous about that. Their point releases have contained added features that most companies would charge an upgrade fee for. I feel terrible about what has happened with Cakewalk, but I think many Sonar users will be pleasantly surprised with both Presonus and Studio One.

I upgraded my S1 version 2 to this latest version 3.5 It was a real good deal for me. Also think both Presonus and Cubase offers are nice. Neither company had to do a damn thing. The fact that they did, at such a short notice too, speaks volumes for both companies.

Still don't have that email from JRRShop (even in junk), but the updated "message from Rick" page says to send proof of ownership to crossgrades@Presonus.com, so I did. Note that this is sending proof to Presonus directly, not via JRRShop. We'll see...

I agree. You really can't go wrong with either one of them. I very much prefer the workflow of Studio One, but Cubase is just a beast (in a good way). If your work is primarily MIDI based, Cubase is probably the best fit for you at the moment. My work is primarily audio oriented. My use of MIDI is usually limited to drums and keys. Studio One is just about perfect for me. I do have a copy of Cubase Pro that I keep keep updated. The latest version is stellar, but my needs are better suited to Studio One at the moment.

I emailed PreSonus yesterday, asking about the crossgrade. In my inbox this morning I got a message from PreSonus support telling me to access my account at their site and there was an answer waiting for me there. Once at the checkout, and I had added a coupon, as directed, the price came down to $168.27 (converted to £130.59). The Black Friday deal at PreSonus was £172.20, so I call that a result, and I took them up on their offer. That said, it was probably a bit reckless of me and I now have fully paid up versions of SONAR Platinum, Reaper and Studio One 3. I fully intend to stay with SONAR so Reaper and Studio One 3 are my insurance policies, if you like. I have been enjoying my time, over the weekend, getting to grips with SO3... Cheers, and thanks to PreSonus, andy

THIS may actually work to your benefit. Sometimes crossgrades force you to surrender your existing License to get the crossgrade. I, too, bought the FULL version, specifically to avoid this type of situation. That way no matter what, I'm safe from "disaster".

Hi Larry, yeah, I hadn't given this much thought to be honest, so I just went ahead regardless. I've double checked the T's and C's and I can't see any mention of surrendering our SONAR license. Fingers crossed this is the case, or else I would have to deactivate SO3 until SONAR no longer works for me. cheers andy

Crossgrade is different to Trade in. Trade in is about getting money back (or discounts) in return for what you hand over. Crossgrade is all about offering incentives to switch allegiance from one manufacturer to another. As Cakewalk is no longer trading, crossgrade offers are either to entice users away from the remaining competition, or a genuine offer of help. As most of the crossgrade offers are very similar in nature we must assume that there is a least a little bit of philanthropy. At the end of the day, the other DAW producers gain more customers and Sonar users get cheap entry into replacement DAWs. I don't see an issue.

Thanks Karyn, so I simply don't have a problem and, after all, I can only use one DAW at a time anyway. I'll be honest, this is the first time ever that I have taken advantage of a "crossgrade," so I wasn't really sure. The end cost, coupled with the quick reply to my original query, and the fact that I have been using it for nearly a week now, with interesting results, convinced me to part with my hard earned (in my opinion) cash. Still some issues I have to address, like bank/program changes to my MIDI hardware, but not quite a show stopper. cheers andy

Heh... Yeah that can happen... I have Splat (which has now, it would seem, gone Splat!), Reason 10, Live 9, and I just bought Mixbus for $29, because $29 (and I've heard interesting things about it as a mix environment)... and I'm *still* interested in this deal (more so than Cubase, ironically since I actually used Cubase for several years long long ago before I discovered Sonar). And still harbouring a vague back-burner interest in Reaper and, increasingly, Mixcraft, especially since I've been hearing good things about it from people here. Step 1: admit that you have a problem... (And let's not even get started on Vat/i's!)

Since I'm mostly an audio guy, I'm leaning towards Studio One 3 (also seeing this is a very nice deal). I still have a copy of Studio One 1 Artist (yes, the first one), but haven't played much with it. I'd like to use Splat as long as possible, but would hate to be stuck without a DAW. No, you only have something to show for it if you stop looking at stuff you don't have but might want to pick up one day, and actually make some music with the stuff you already have. Extra points if anybody else, ever, hears the music you make. Extra extra points if you make a tiny bit of money from that. Note: this falls firmly into the "do as I say, not as I do" category
