A message from Rick Naqvi—VP of Sales, PreSonus Audio Electronics

http://blog.presonus.com/index.php/presonus-cakewalk-crossgrade-offer/

Rick Naqvi
Dear Cakewalk Customers,
We were just as shocked as you were to hear about the closing of Cakewalk. Although they were one our competitors, we have a huge amount of respect for them and there is no doubt that they have been one of the pioneers in computer-based recording as well as innovators in our industry for 30 years. We also had several friends within the company who lost their jobs, and we are truly sorry to hear about this. This sort of thing is never good for our industry—it affects the employees and their families as well as all of the customers who gave their loyal support for so many years.
With that in mind, we wanted to extend an open invitation for you to become part of the PreSonus Studio One community.
We typically offer a significant discount for customers that are coming from other DAWs to Studio One so that they can get it for about 25% off the price of a standalone copy of Studio One Professional. However, through the end of this year, we want Cakewalk customers to be able to to enjoy Studio One Professional at half off the existing crossgrade price—around $149 USD; exact pricing and currency will vary by region, of course.
We will offer this special crossgrade through a handful of select dealers worldwide and also through our direct shop.

So to summarise ..  50% for Sonar cross grades until the end of the year.

$149.That's pretty generous and actually better than any third party Black Friday deal. The best deal up until today was Audio Deluxe at 168.89 and that was with the extra 31% off.

I was able to get it for less than the crossgrade price,
but if it's going to be $149 that's a good deal.  If the
discounters carry it that will make it about $125

I can't find the forum where I originally got this link: https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?f=151&t=27570
It's a welcoming message on the Presonus board for people migrating from Sonar.
Can someone explain this section:

Studio One Development Philosophy (generalizations)
  • Studio One has no MIDI!  This means that the developers created their own proprietary protocol within Studio One to better handle the original MIDI spec resolutions and timings. Does it communicate with Hardware or Virtual Instruments via MIDI? Yes. Is it as mature as a 30-year-old DAW that got it beginnings with MIDI? No.

I'm still heartbroken over CW.  Changing to another DAW right now feels sort of like dating right after your beloved wife of 30 years died.  But, $149 is an amazing price and you gotta jump back in the pool sometime.

You haven't lived until you've taken the Rorschach.

Yeah, I found that one kind of inexplicable, too, especially since I've been testing the Studio One demo with MIDI for three days and it's been working fine, from dragging loops to recording synths to editing MIDI notes. I guess they mean they "don't do MIDI" but they have some kind of internal translator. In any case, it works seamlessly (for me).

Simply, SO doesn't use Midi internally,  You attach Midi devices (real or virtual) and from there on the internal data is their own proprietary system.

I asked this elsewhere but... will any US dealers online sell this Studio One Pro crossgrade with Notion 6? There is an option to buy Notion 6 for Studio One Pro owners on the Presonus website but I'd like to buy it discounted and in $$$ without 20% sales tax, preferably at the same time as Studio One Pro. It is a shame that Presonus is not offering a bundled crossgrade too.

It's my opinion that Studio One's offer is pretty ****!!!!! Five weeks or so to come up with the money to crossgrade to their DAW, it's like grab it while you can and oh dear, F***K the rest of you. I'm only a couple of months into my SPLAT renewal and what do you know christmas is just around the corner and I've got a family. It seems to me Studio One just wants to make a quick buck out of our misfortune having believed that Cakewalk was something worth continued investment in. If they really wanted to "HELP OUT" Sonar users they would have given more time for those of us who were hobby studios to raise the money for a crossgrade. Not all of us can justify putting it on a credit card when we have just survival bills to pay.

Or like everyone else, they could have let their 50% Black Friday deal expire today...  (Steinberg have yet to say how long their Sonar cross grade deal will last).

Or would you prefer to email PreSonus directly and ask them to simply cut their price list in half permanently?

yes... I also bought it yesterday and JRR says they don't see a problem with a credit/refund between yesterday's pricing and this new crossgrade offer.  We'll see, but the guy at JRR sounded very optimistic, depending on what Presonus says.  I hope so since I bought it within 24 hrs of this new pricing.
If not....well.... life goes on ;-)

Hello,

Thank you for your order. This specially-priced Crossgrade is for Cakewalk Sonar owners only. If you do not own Cakewalk Sonar, I am sorry that we did not properly display this information for you before. Please reply to let us know if you need a refund.

If you do own Cakewalk Sonar, please visit the updated Studio One Crossgrade page for instructions on uploading your qualification documents. We cannot provide your Studio One Professional license to you until we have received these documents and gotten them approved by Presonus.

you apparently have to submit to Presonus that you own Cakewalk, to get a "code" from them to be qualified to buy the crossgrade.  Read the blog at Presonus  (or it's linked on other threads here).  Says it may take a couple days to receive your code.  Basically you send a pic (screen capture) of your Sonar CCC page or your Sonar "info" page....or sales receipt.
