It's also worth pointing out that if you right click on Sonar in the CCC update list, to bring up the rollback menu, there is an option there to "delete files."

Thank you, Sharke! I kept wondering why my C: drive was filling up, even though I had relocated Cakewalk Content to a different drive. Now, instead of 32 GB free out of 237 GB, I have 98 GB free. Phew, that feels better!

sharke In case some of you weren't aware, the CC downloads update files to a folder which you can specify in the CC options, but which defaults to your system drive. For those of you with large system drives this may not be a problem, but if like me you have limited space on an SSD (mine is 250GB) then you might find yourself literally running out of drive space if you don't keep on top of it. This happened to me last night, for the first time in my life I found myself getting "drive full" errors and found that I only had about 50MB free on my system drive. Quickly located the biggest culprit to the CC download folder which was bursting with many GB of files, many of them well past their sell by date! I deleted them all to free up space and then decided to move the folder location to my data drive, which at 2TB can spare the room. But there is nothing to stop this folder growing unless you manually delete files. Perhaps the Bakers should implement some kind of download folder size limit specifiable by the user, with the oldest files being deleted once this limit has been reached. Just a thought.
Many thanks for posting this as I wondered why my main drive was quickly running low on space.

Good to see people getting some drive space back! Here's another little tip: if you use CCleaner on a regular basis, you can add your CC download folder to a custom list of folders to clean. Just go to Options->Include and add the folder. Every time you run the Cleaner function of CCleaner, it will empty your download folder. I always get a few GB back when using CCleaner anyway, so adding the CC download folder just makes it even better. And what an apt name! CCleaner..... I don't use the registry cleaner part of the app, I've never been comfortable with them because who knows what they're doing in there.

Something else that might help to clean up some other additional space, especially if you are on Windows 10 and have had it for long enough to see one of the full updates, which can create a windows.old folder. You can't "just" delete the folder, but you can do a disk cleanup. You need an additional option selected to see this: Go to start. Type clean and then click the disk cleanup option that comes up. Then (important) on the resulting, dialog, click the "clean up system files". When that reads the disk, scroll through the resulting list. I just located about 2gb of stuff and I don't have a windows.old folder at the moment. If you do, you would likely find 20gb or so. Hope this helps others to regain even more space.

scook Yes, I got a PM about it so I will post my reply with the steps here. The name of the new location could be any valid path. In this example I am assuming the default location of "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" and a new location of "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads"
FYI, ProgramData is a hidden directory.
1. Create the new location "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" 2. Move the contents from "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" to "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" 3. Delete "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" 4. run cmd.exe as administrator 5. type mklink /j "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads"
Okay, so I believe I've successfully followed these steps and everything seems to still be working fine on my system. One question, after creating that junction, do I still have to change the Download Path within CCC to the new D: drive location? Or can I leave it as the default and the junction will automatically download new updates to the new location?

That is one of the reasons to use a directory junction. No other changes are needed. As far as the programs are concerned nothing has changed. The OS will automatically handle the details of the physical location of the files.

So, if it all can be re-downloaded and CCC will "get it", then once it's been installed, that folder is for rollbacks only? Mine is showing 74Gb in properties and I am perfectly fine with deleting some of that! LOL Other than say, the last 3 updates, what else "ought to be saved"? I'm not quite sure why the "backup" is "required", if CCC can "fetch it back" if need be. I do have room on another drive, but 74 Gb? I haven't rolled back yet. Michael

Rollback and Re-installs. I save everything but do not let that be your guide. Yes, the Command Center will download files as needed as long as the Command Center is working and the files are available for download. While that is convenient it is not enough assurance for me that it will work when I need it. I rarely rollback too but I have X2,X3 and 2016-03 through 2017-03 installed, ready to run. All on a 250GB SSD with other apps and room to spare.

Remember the files can be manually added and removed from the Command Center cache. If you have an archiving system, move any or all the files to it. Copy them back when you need them. The Command Center looks in the cache before starting a download. If the files are in cache, it goes straight to install, skipping the download step.

First off - THANK YOU SHARKE for the best tip EVER!! I just shed 80GB of my OS drive, and I'm ready for Spring and look FABULOUS!! And SCOOK - My biggest dilemma with a junction would be forgetting it was put in place... Unless it's flagged somewhere in plain sight, I would be looking at the location shown in CC and forget the files were being re-routed... ...and why does the preferred location in CC change if I log off?? I get the advantage of the junction after knowing that, so...I need to convince myself and just do it...

There is an entry on the drive showing the junction. Click on the entry and it takes you to the physical location.
