Oh man!!! I think I have it NOW!!!! The only problem I see is that for the button bank, the shift key enables the first row and I expected it to activate the second ACT button row. I wonder if I can swap them somehow. Also, the n/a in the dropdowns are sure confusing when selecting features for the buttons. This is REAL SWEET though!!! ORIGINAL: madratter To see track banks in action, bring up more than 8 tracks. Then when you hit next track bank, it will shift from the first 8 tracks to the next 8 tracks. (If you have less than 16 tracks it will shift to the last 8. For example, if you have 9 tracks it will shift to tracks 2-9). Assuming you used the unmarked button as the shift key (and learned it) and assuming the D button is what you learned as button 8, those two together should give you the next track bank (again assuming you did not change the meaning of that cell in the options page). Also terminology is somewhat convoluted here as Axiom insisted on calling the rotary knobs B1-B8 do to the zone they are in. Sonar uses B1-B8 to refer to the buttons. I am referring in this case to the shift button (I used unmarked, and the button learned for ACT B8 (I used the D button). ACT banks are different from track banks. That can also be changed using button presses. So you can use ACT banks to switch from controlling volume to controlling trim or something like that. Again the terminology here can be very confusing.

LOL!! yeah, I started with a meltdown yesterday. I think I got it with the combo of programming the Axiom and then ACT Learn. ACT is VERY sweet! Now if we had a list of the different functions and their descriptions. That would make things better for me to program the rest of the ACT config. I tried to see where these settings were kept so I could archive them somewhere. I would then host the settings on my website for those who needed the setup. We get to go home half day today so I get to play with it for a bit in a little while. ORIGINAL: Mod Bod ORIGINAL: Guitarmech111 keepin it fresh.... Whhhew! Glad you finally got it all sorted . ACT is one of those things that for me is a real danger. I could end up spending a whole lot of time tweaking it to perfection instead of actually recording music. I do know that I need to go in and change my button definitions. No point to having transport stuff covered twice. I just need to decide what I want to replace them with. ACT still has warts and I really want radial knobs that actually increment and decrement along with soft takeover for sliders. But even with the current warts, it is certainly a big step forward - although probably not in the moonwalk kind of category.

First axiom user to upload a file of good settings for the rest of us to download (an enigma thing and associated ACT thing maybe) will earn Hero status instantly. I'm sure as heck not gonna be first to get such done, I'm a bit pants at pretty much everything but playing instruments and pressing play and record. Save me! :D

It will have to be 2 files. One for Enigma and one for ACT. As soon as I fiugure out how to get the ACT settings exported, I will post what I have. As madratter mentioned ACT needs some growing up, but it is still better than what we had! With the way their files are laid out, posting an entire ACT setup might be tricky.

I have a single REG file for the axiom only. I have also done some work on getting all banks defined and minipulating through the banks of sliders, knobs and buttons. I have spent quite a few hours on this. I feel real good about it now. ORIGINAL: madratter With the way their files are laid out, posting an entire ACT setup might be tricky.

You can always use the preset manager to expport the settings. Since I don't have all the other controllers, I deleted them from the registry. I did backup the entry first though. I have done some additional work on my profile too. I just got busy with work and haven't had much time lately to post a new file. I can host anything on the Yahoo! SONAR group if anyone wants to share the files. ORIGINAL: Mod Bod ORIGINAL: madratter With the way their files are laid out, posting an entire ACT setup might be tricky. Ok. I've got an Axiom 61 sitting in the box. I've been waiting for my S6 to arrive to hook it up. S6 arrived yesterday. Now, after reading this thread, I"m almost afraid to take the Axiom out of the box. I mean, you guys started this thread in SEPTEMBER! You're all much better versed in MIDI than I am. Am I gonna have to spend a week just to get the Axiom talking to Sonar though ACT?? Is it worth it? Somebody please reassure me.....

I Sat down yesterday with my new Axiom 25 (bought especially to exploit ACT), all these threads, the manual and the cakewalk guide to setting things up and it's just fried my brain (there is an extra caveat that I want it to work alongside my Studiomix so I don't want the Axiom to have anything to do with controlling audio tracks just synths and FX). Please can someone send me an Axiom template? I'm marcDOTrotheraATgmailDOTcom I will figure stuff out but a foot up here would be warmly appreciated. Many thanks Child

Yes, it's a pain at first but don't point your frustration at CW and ACT. And at this moment in time don't point it at M-Audio either. All they need is a stock preset in the Axiom and half the work will be done. And if they do provide a preset and SONAR has a preset that automatically loads a working set up don't rejoice just yet. You're still going to have to learn to work your Axiom and SONAR's ACT. Why? Because anytime someone does the thinking for you, you are bound by their perspective of how things ought to be. I must have changed my Axiom set up a half dozen times before I found one that worked for me when I considered the other hardware I owned and the way I worked. By learning how to change the Axiom to do what I wanted and not what someone else thought I needed, I am able to easily (not necessarily quickly) change things and make it my own set up. I learned how to save these setups as user presets and I can now change things with a couple of button presses. You've got to learn your tools or you're always going feel helpless and dependent on someone else. So jump back in a try to learn as much as you can on your own and when you run into a dead end then seek help. We'll be there because we've already been through it.

Yeah fair point Dave, I know you're right but the learning curve on this is like an inverse exponential and I was hoping that getting a look at someone elses template might get me a bit further up it (there are always going to be certain parts of a wheel that don't need reinventing). I'm guessing I need to get the Axiom set up first and then configure ACT / MMC and the Generic CS plugs? I have the Enigma editor also but being able to change stuff doesn't help knowing what stuff I should be changing! Cakewalk suggested elsewhere that there were 'more templates to come' all I can say is they can't come quick enought right now (Yes I've lodged a feature request too) My big beef at the moment is that the act learn 'cells' thing only gives me green cells when I want blue ones, at one point it put the Psyn I was using in the 'Act Learn' box which I selected and seemed to get working then next time I went back to it all the cells where green again (i.e refer to track settings not synth control settings?) I knew this would be a bad idea for me after my experiences with studioware, oh well at least theres a new GUI :-| Child
