ACT assignments not persisting
Bit of a head scratcher this one. If I change any ACT mappings, they revert to the defaults when I close and re-open Sonar. Anyone ever encountered this?

YEs!! And it's driving me mad!! I've never encountered it until I got my Novation Zero thingy in January and it's impossible to control the Pro Channel with it outside of the Automap mode because of this. Or use ACT at all for that matter. I thought maybe I was being a noob or that something was wrong with the Novation system. So far, no remedy for it. Never had this problem with my M-Audio stuff.

This is happening to me with the v-700, which suggests a more fundamental problem than a compatibility issue.

Seriously? Wow! Yeah. did you notice this prior to X1d? I try to remember when I first noticed. It could have been around the quick fix. But I've noticed before X1d

I haven't changed an ACT assignment in something like two years, so I've no idea. I thought at first it was a ProChannel thing, as that's what I was trying to change, but I've tried it with a couple of regular VSTs and I can't get any changes to persist at all.

OK. It did come as a surprise on me as well. I'd like to find out what may have caused it so it would be easier to take it to Cakewalk. I haven't had much time to investigate much as I've been ridiculously busy. But I will put some time into it as soon as I can. I wish I had some more info at this time.

Just a thought John T has anything changed in regard to "Running as administrator"? A lot of programs have trouble saving files if they aren't. I haven't tried changing any ACT assignments since X1d but I'll give it a whirl when I get back to the studio later.

I'm finding my APRO 500 assignments a bit flakey too. I used to have a separate assignment for the Pro Channel, using the APRO B4 key. Now to access the Pro Channel I have to use the Effects hard key (B2) sometimes it registers the button press sometimes it stay in the track mode. There is now nothing mapped to the B4 key. All this happened since X1d update. I Wondered if it was just me and my setup, so I reinstalled the APRO, still the same. Some ACT madness going on definately.

I have had some real issues with the ACT assignments on my Avid Artist Control. I had it set up (in X1c) to play nice. After X1d was installed the pro channel eq reverted to old assignments. I tried to re-assign them and played a cat and mouse game where it worked, didn't, worked, didn't for quite a while. It's not just me then...

Anybody up for running a quick check? Just assign a control in ACT and see if it persists after closing and re-starting Sonar.

Yup, same here. Tried to assign the Novation in MIDI mode and setings were gone upon restarting Sonar. My Axiom only works on the channel strip for some reason. Nothing new there, it's always been like that. I can only have one ACT controler fully functional. However, for volume, pan and transport it works flawlessly and the ACT mappings persists. OH, and the administrator trick didn't work here either.

Hey John Im going to check out if ACT saves after a restart as soon as boot up today.. I did notice some problems with sonitus Plugins and FX chains with ACT.. Noel confirmed some issues with ACT and Sonitus plugins ,,wonder if its new to just X1d or not. Wonder if your issue might be a relation to what I found.. Just tried it here on both mine a BCF & ZED-R16 MIDI control section. Nothing fancy just swapped ratio for input on a compressor and a couple of the EQ Q knobs around. Closed Sonar re-opened it, both had stuck okay.

As you've just done that, can you check something for me? Looking here: C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\ACT Data There are a bunch of xml files. I'm guessing these contain the mappings. Looking at the dates, I can see none of minute have changed since mic-January. If this is where the data sits, then you should have at least one that's just changed. I might be wrong about this, but am curious.

For anyone who is having problems with this, I found a solution (for my version of the problem at least). Had to do a lot fo tedious backing up and trial and error and restoring. But as far as I can figure out, it's this: do a search on your main drive for sonaract.xml. Delete all iterations of that. Then do a search for genericpluginparams.xml. Delete all iterations of that. These files will be re-created by Sonar the next time it needs them. My problem previously is that something was stopping it overwriting the old versions. God knows why.

Now onto the next thing. Anyone got any idea how you *clear* an ACT assignment. Say I've got a control mapped to a knob and just want to get rid of it? I know I could edit the XML, but even an immortal life is a bit short for that.
