In one case will the form be filled out automatically. The program fills out the form for the Tool itself and then only: - when the "Update registry" option is enabled and
- the entry for the tool does not already exist and
- the "Add this Tool to SONAR" button is clicked.
The Name field and the Menu Text are required but are normally blank. The name field is the name of the registry entry. The menu text is what appears in the SONAR menu. I am guessing you overwrote the Tool Editor Exe Path with the Audacity Exe Path. Also the default for the program is not to change the registry directly but create .reg files. You may want to start over. Make sure "Update Registry" is set to Yes Delete the Tool Editor entry Create a new entry for Audacity Create a new Tool Editor entry (if you want one).

I think this is what happened: After setting "Update registry" to yes you clicked on "Add this Tool to SONAR" then clicked the browse button to right of Exe Path and added the path for Audacity then clicked Submit At least that is one scenario which would cause the Tool Editor entry to launch Audacity. Clicking "Add this Toll to SONAR" button only fills the form for review. The Submit button must be clicked to actually update the registry.

Yup. You may have a career in forensics! Or at least Sonar forensics.... Now it's working too good. It opens the selected track, but then tries to open another window and returns a Region error. I close it and everything seems ok with the "good" window, just that extra bit is a little odd.

If you did this tweak in previous versions of Sonar it is carried over when you install the new version. BTW why can this be put back in Sonar without an external tweak. Most of the other DAWs have this function.

Edit the Audadicty entry and set "Region Flag" to No

Feel free to make a Feature Request. In the interim, I believe this tool should work.

I've been trying to add Cool Edit 2000 (Yes, it's old but it works fine) to my Sonar X3. I've tried several times with no success. Maybe I just don't know how to run the menu editing program by Scook. I know I've done it successfully before on an older Win 7 64bit system. I'm now running Win 7 Pro 64bit on a new PC. I've tried running the menu editor normally and as administrator (even though I'm logged in as an administrator). Here's what the program interface looks like: <Ooops - had to edit out the image - it came thru as data, not an image> It filled out the info about Cool Edit. What buttons do I click to make it work? Does it make a difference if X3 is running or not when trying to add an editor to the Utilities menu? Thanks, Larry

1. set Update Registry to Yes 2. set Name to "Cool Edit" (this is the name of the registry entry) 3. Click Exe Path Browse button and find the Cool Edit program or type in the fully qualified path of the program 4. set Menu Name to "&Cool Edit" (this is the name shown in the menu, the ampersand is optional and sets the accelerator key for the menu item. The Utilities menu is created when SONAR is started. Changes to the registry will not be picked when SONAR is started again.

That is not my tool. It never looked like that. If that is the old SONAR Utils program, it is not 64bit compatible.

scook There are still copies of wave files made in the background, it is all handled automatically. Ultimately if the changes are committed in the external program, the changed wave is added back to the SONAR project.
Thanks scook for this utility. I just tried it with Audition 3.0 and it works fine. When, after editing a region of a wav clip within Audition, and close the Audition window, Audition says : Current audio file not saved. Save changes to C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Temp\Tool copy 1 of TEX003.7 (7).wav? Question 1 : Is there a way to specify another folder for temporary files for this usage ? I don't know who picked this Temp folder and I would prefer a temp folder somewhere other than on my almost full SSD. If I say "no" to Audition, no changes are made to the project's audio files. If I say "yes", a wav file is created within the project's audio folder with the name "Tool copy 1 of TEX003_7 (15).wav". [nice that a copy is made automatically] Question 2 : Is the string "Tool copy n ..." created by Sonar and is it changeable to something more meaningful like "Audition copy n ..." so I have an idea of who was responsible for the copy ? Thanks.

I uploaded a new version. The tool now has command line arguments to override drop down default settings. This makes it easier to set up inside SONAR (at least for me). I also repackaged both versions in a zip file w/ a readme.pdf.

OK so i think i understand that i can select a audio file in track view and then under utilities menu select sound forge pro 11 then sound forge should open and carry the audio file over ! Great but it doesn't, 1)because if i change the registry (Type to Audioeditor then i can open sound forge through utilities , but it wont carry the audio file over . 2) if i change the registry ( Type to WaveEditor then its greyed out in utilities ???????????????????????????????HELP So i have worked out that the registry edit ( Type needs to say WaveEditor for it to carry the audio over ) but when i modify it to WaveEditor then relaunch platinum sound forge is there under utilities but its GREYED OUT!!!! " /> Can someone please look at my registry settings pic below and tell me why sound forge is greyed out in utilities ??? UPDATE: Its ok i realise that i need to highlight the audio in track view for it to not be greyed out but the sample i was selecting was NO GOOD , ALL WORKING NOW , just not with some samples ! " />

Glad you figured it out. I added Sound Forge without a hitch. This utility is a huge asset. Way easier than the old method. There are a million little windows tweeking utillitys all over the internet but 90% ( 99%?) are malware, nice to have one from a trusted source.
