Thanks for listening & the feedback Kev...

I just uploaded a new Mix... still not completely happy with the Brass arrangement... I may just dump the horns... and keep it simple...

Thanks Tim, I hope they sound believable... I played them on an old Yamaha PSR-1500, and drew a lot of gain envelopes for the swells... very time consuming...

They sounded believable to me (on my laptop). I was saying (to self) "damn, nice horns".
I'm sure I could go listen again and find something wrong. You know how it is...

Sorry to be late Frank..glad I got here eventually though, this is just beautiful. Those slide fills are sublime, but that's just one of many treats here. Fantastic.

Cool tune... I was grooving to it nice and bluesy and slow then you double timed me....  nice switch up that you don't hear too often these days.... oh then back again.....

To have horns or not in a blues tune..... man I love it either way... the horns give it a big band big production sound, without, makes it more rootsy.....

Great job.... I'd kill to have vocals like that on all my stuff....

Re:Ain't Never Goin' Back (shortened & re-mixed) 2012/09/27 20:29:50 (permalink)
New mix... 9-27-12
shortened song by cutting 8 bars from the 1st chorus...
added automation swells to the B-3
overhauled transition into double-time part
rerecorded some new guitar licks
re-sang part of 1'st verse
fixed horn parts
totally re-mixed...

Ahhh, your organ is swelling nicely now! Doesn't that feel better? (Let's hope it doesn't last more than 4 hours...)

And that sweet harp adds so much to this kind of tune.

This is really working now Frank.

Getcha some black girls singing and shakin it (Ooooooo Never goin back! Oooooooo) in the background and you're golden. Love it when it really got going and then slowed back at the end.

Impossible not to love this.

And please do post the link when you have that album done. I haven't bought much, but I believe I would contribute to the cause. You both pose, and answer the question, can blue men sing the whites? Yes, yes they can.

That sounds like a million bucks Frank.  Really good.  Really nice guitar playing and the overall production is top notch.  I think you do a great job mixing the horns and arranging them.  The only thing is that the horns don't match up with all the other tracks.  They sound a little synthetic.  That wouldn't be bad, but your other tracks are so authentic - you need a real horn player to come in and play those parts.  However, I may not have even noticed if you hadn't mentioned you thought about scrapping the horns.
