Akai EIE usb output problem
After setting up my new sparkling Akai EIE audio interface ,I finally got it to play audio ie via Windows Media Player .....however...I have tried everything to enable playback in Sonar Producer 7. In the Akai audio panel I'm getting X on output and it's saying ......USB may already be in use or MS wave synth enabled....which it most def is not as far as I can see. No help anywhere in this. It says go to website which is no help at all. No other usb audio devices connected ....system is XP. I'm just trying to remember when was the last time I upgraded anything without encountering the obligatory glitch.

Have you downloaded the latest drivers for the EIE? The drivers on the CD are not very good. Also, uninstall ASIO4All if you have it on your machine. That message seems odd. I have not seen anything like that in the EIE ASIO panel.

Thanks...I just downloaded the new drivers...still the same. To elaborate..the audio of the Akai device says.... USB audio device out = X 44.1khz16 bit ..then a message says " in use by other app or MS GS wave table synth enabled " Even the help troubleshoot doc says about the "dreaded MS GS wave table ..a midi output you should never use " but then they advice go to www.asio4all which doesn't help me at all. I must say, they seem to be washing their hands of the problem, wished they let me know before I purchased. Am at a total standstill now.

Do you have the red(16 bit) EIE or the EIE Pro(silver)? Double check that you have the right drivers. "USB Audio Device" suggests that XP has installed generic drivers. Disconnect the EIE, install the drivers, then connect the EIE to a different USB port. Also turn off "share drivers with other programs" in Sonar.

Thanks so much for your help with this ..I really do appreciate it.
It's the red 16 bit
No...I did as you advised....same results. It actually records audio ...but will not play back. But the audio out device still has the blasted X against it.
I feel as though I'm getting to end of the road.

Hmmm... Do you have USB speakers connected to the PC? Check your Windows settings for Sound Device. Make the EIE the primary output. Also check the Windows mixer(both pages). I seem to recall something similar to this with my old EMU0404 under XP. I'll check the Akai docs when I get home this evening.

Thanks once again for your help and time.
Okay done all you said.
So far Sonar 7 is recording audio...the soft synths (after asking for driver audio outs) also now play.
But still this frustrating X next to audio out. Defiantly something within Sonar ?
Ps it is the EMU 404 I have just replaced .
