I think symbols he uses are no different to him than Sonar using icons for switches in DAW graphics. Personally Icons are a distraction for me I'd rather have a word or abbreviation than an Icon any day. but, I can also imagine that the symbol might represent an envelope style as well as an instrument. Who knows - it looks like his own custom language and probably represent an instant recall for whatever he's programmed in the past.
