Amplitube 3 (Free)

Not sure if this has been posted yet so I thought I would mention it.

You can get Amplitube 3 free right now from IK Multimedia. I got it yesterday, it has a lot of nice features for free, some features you can try and have the option to buy if you choose to do so.

It does have the VST plugins for recording, several presets and other cool features.

Registration and activation are required but that is free. More information can be found at the link below on how to get it.

nope, it's not the same thing exactly.  the one that comes with MC5 is Amplitube X-Gear, this is Amplitube 3 Free.  it's Amplitube 3 with fewer choices.  I don't know how similar they are tho, but since it's free I'm downloading it and will find out!

I have it and it is great! Kind of cramped with just a couple of standard amps and cabs. The best thing is it comes with the guitar shop software that hooks you to their website so you can custom pick whatever amps or effects you wish to purchase. They are pretty reasonable price-wise. I have just about all of the amp sims. My two faves have been Guitar Rig and Amplitube. It is well worth getting.

It looks like a great program. Only problem is, their website looks terrible, the letters are small and the screen looks like a scam site even though I know they aren't. Heck I could do better, a lot better.   They really, badly need to revamp their site and change the appearance of it in my opinion. Left page justification, it's ashamed a company with the potential of IK has such a terrible looking website.

Just my opinion, not knocking the software, I'm just saying the website needs some serious work on the visual side of thing in my opinion.

The Fender models are OUTSTANDING! I actually owned 2 Tweed Bassmans (one without a middle control!...) from the 50's and a few blackface models...IK nailed it...I wanted to buy Amplitube 3.5

Is this how you buy it at this point?...ala carte through the custom shop or should I do it as a crossgrade for the whole program?

I've used Amplitube X-Gear or that is the one that comes with MC5, I wasn't that impressed with it because it didn't offer many options. I currently use Pod Farm and I'm happy with it. But I will say this, Free or not Amplitube 3 Free is outstanding for a what it offers for free alone, and it's making me take a second look at their software. I think if you buy the entire package it is a bit too high for me, so if I upgrade or purchase any pedals, amps or effects it will have to be only what I need.

That being said, I like the idea of being able to try them and buy a single effect as opposed to having to buy a whole package of stuff you will never use and don't need.

I tried a demo of Guitar Rig before I downloaded this, nothing against Guitar Rig but it took an eternity to install that software, and to be honest, I wasn't that impressed with what it was offering. I guess it's great for some, it's just not for me.

You can stick with AmpliTube 3 FREE and just buy the models you want with the Custom Shop or you can also buy the AmpliTube 3 Suite, AmpliTube Fender or Ampeg SVX. Its really your choice. :) If you have any further questions let me know.

I've been playing around with it for couple of weeks now. The modeling and overall sound is much improved. Really impressed with it compared to earlier versions. The Custom Shop I thought was kinda cool... seem weird at first, like XBOX live or something lol... but now I think it's cool as sh**. For an amp sim is g'dam in depth and flexible. I like that the free version is fully functional too. Big thumbs for IK.

Is it possible to record a clean signal on a line 6 pod and then apply Amplitude to it?  Is this an optimal signal chain?

yes, that's a workable scenerio.  amplitube is just a plugin - like any other FX that goes in the FX bin, so you apply it after the recording anyway, even if you use it to monitor the recording, it's not actually "printed" on the recording and can be changed or even deleted if desired.

you should be able to record clean on the pod, too.  just don't use any of the FX on the pod!

    Yes I do.
Our biggest plans DAW wise are mainly with our iOS apps and having the built in recorder.
    Thanks! :)

@ IK Obi- why does the new authorization manager use up another authorization on the same machine? I was encouraged to use it on my existing products. Did I just get screwed out of another authorization? I re-registered all my products like an idiot.

I had to reinstall Amp 1 after a hardware failure and when I tried to register with my original digital ID/Reg code it wouldn't work. I had to open a support ticket and they sent DL links to  my IK account for the latest Amp1 version and also Amp 3 , SampleTank and TRacks. It also listed in my account how many authorizations I had left... that kinda freaked me out because I didn't know there was a limit to how many times you could authorize.

I went ahead and sent a support ticket. However there should be a stipulation on that PDF that it is not necessary nor advised to register existing products as that will only consume an authorization needlessly.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a question for Obi.  Are there plans to offer an upgrade price to move from T-Racks Classic to Deluxe?  I just picked up the $50 special on classic, and love what I hear so far, so I'd love to move up and pick up those other plugs, but right now the only way to do that is buy a full Deluxe license and pay again for the four plugs I have now (or buy the singles, but that works out to be more expensive).  Between this deal and the Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day a while back, I bet you guys could make a lot of money off of guys like me who got hooked with the smaller package and want to move up.

It will load in half my projects and crash the other half ??
I thought I remember something about changing the boot order or disabling the floppy on start up or something but I am not sure.....
This really irritates me.. I spent hours downloading and installing different ways and it still won't play nice with most of my X1 projects.... Thanks for nothing IK...there is another evening I will never get back...

It's just seems like its a "You cant have Amplitube 3 Free and use it too" kinda thing...
IK Obi, if you could lend some advice I would appreciate it.
In thinking back again about the last IK issue I had I think the culpret was the Authorization manager and that I rolled it back and it seemed to correct the problem...
Obi, what do you think, does this sound right to you?
Thanks again and sorry about the flaming....

I will say, while I like Amplitube (much more so than Guit Rig), the process to utilize the Custom Shop if your studio computer is not on the internet is the most convoluted, cumbersome authorization process of any piece of recording software I've ever owned.

Numerous posts on the IK Forum will back this up numerous times over.

And, yes I know it's free, but I own a purchased copy of Amplitube 2 as well as a couple of other IK products.

IK makes some very good plugins but everything from the new website (better than the old one) to the authorization processes are less than user friendly.

And yes, I've read the several page offline auth instructions. It is not a few simple mous clicks. I would post it here but it's way too long.

"Musicians first!" Maybe, but definitely not professional audio engineers first....and that's a shame.
