You know, I have a vague inkling of having read something like that on this forum but I have no idea where, and I'm not 100% certain I read what I think I read. I would literally do back flips if there was some kind of deal because $299 for the editor upgrade is way out of my league for a plug....

If it's any consolation, I felt the same brief pang of excitement when I saw that page yesterday before I realized what it meant.

Melodyne is not just a plugin... Also, Celemony had an upgrade discount for S1 users and if I remember correctly it was around $200. Try registering your Essentials key then go through the upgrade options on the site and see if the price is discounted.

Hmm... Thanks, Sweet Tooth. You got me to investigate this some more... I couldn't find a place to log in, so I still don't know if we'll get a discount, but the visit to their site got me thinking.. Actually, it seems like Melodyne assistant have all the features I'm after.. Melodyne Assistant's got: - Main tool for pitch, timing and note separations
- Advanced pitch tools (transitions, modulation, drift)
- Formant tool (shifting and transitions)
- Amplitude tool (volume, transitions, mute)
- Amplitude tool (volume, transitions, mute)
- Dedicated Note Separation tool
- Dedicated Timing tool
(where Essential only have the first one; Main tool for pitch, timing and note separations) The only two tools Editor's got that Assistant's missing are: Attack Speed tool and Time Handles for the time course within notes.. You also get the functions User-definable scales and Scale Detective (detect and extract scales) in Editor but not in Assistant. Here's the comparison chart: http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=383 The update price from Essential to Editor is € 299 The update price from Essential to Assistant is €99 .. Anyone that can tell what makes the editor version worth €200 more than Assistant? Edit: Alright... I missed that Editor's the only version that has Direct Note Access for polyphonic material... That's kind of big and something that would be kind of nice to have.. =/ ... But I'm not paying €200 for it.

Gotta admit it would be reeaaaalllly nice to be able to put down synth chords with my guitar. I'm no keyboard player and still find it difficult to change chords fast, whereas I can finger any chord changes with lightning speed on guitar. I hear about a guitar-to-MIDI plugin talked about on the software forum sometimes and might try that because I believe it's close to $100 which is way less than Melodyne Editor.

Well... The technology behind that is for sure lightyears beyond total awesomeness.. .. But I really don't know how much I would use that specific function though and I would never pay that kind of money for something I just might use.. It would be really nice to know if we're about to get a discount or not. .. If not I'm going for the Assistant version. Yeah, sharke! I'd REALLY love to have this function too! =O ..Limitless possibilities!

I got an email offer to upgrade from Melodyne Assistant to Melodyne Editor for $129 USD and I did it. The header of the email offered an upgrade for $79, but apparently that was for people with a different base product than what I had.

I does seem like Assistant would be the natural replacement for V-Vocal. Essential is just woefully underpowered for precise editing. Looks I'll be getting Assistant for now!

Yeah. Same here.. It seems like cakewalk wants to keep any future plans for a melodyne update super deal a secret at the moment. .. That's a shame :/ Melodyne is superior to v-vocal (sound wise) already as it is. But not being able to edit formant or any kind of pitch drifting is too limited to be stuck with much longer.. :/ ..Probably Cakewalk's aware of this and wants to wait for a while until most people already have done the regular-price upgrade, before they'll try and get the "less desperate" to jump on the train afterwards with a discount..

Presonus provided Melodyne Easential when they releases their first.version with ARA. There was never any special deal from Celemony. Lets face it, Cakewalk has given us a $100 discount to get.into whatever version you want. Incidentally, Melodyne is not a straight.swap for VVocal. If you have essential you can still use vvocal for what it offers.

Yeah. I guess you're right. I think I'll follow SvenArne then and get Assistant later today. I've tried and work with v-vocal quite alot, but it's always ended up with me re-recording the take or just letting the take remain untouched. I think v-vocal just destroys the overtones in the audio no matter how gentle you are with the settings.. :/

That's a good deal... and happens to be the same as the one that got me on board early last year. While there are a few things that VVocal does better/quicker, for everything else there's Melodyne Editor.

I think you went the upgrade path. You get assistant for 100 bucks cheaper than if you bought it from scratch. That said, if the deal was supposed to be even better, I'm jumping on the bandwagon with you because I just plunked down 300 bucks to go to Editor.

I upgraded yesterday from Assistant 2.x to Editor 2.x for $109 through AudioDeluxe.com. They are automatically applying an internal "Fall2013" coupon code once your add it to your shopping cart. Not sure how much longer this pricing will be available. The product upgrade page displays $149 but once you add the software to your shopping cart they display the lower $109 price. Couldn't resist - nabbed it. BTW - Once installed, X3 loaded the new Editor version with no additional interaction from me. Works great. Now all I have left is to sit down with chips and soda and watch some Melodyne editor videos.

Well there is a cheaper upgrade path According to the celemony webshop: - Upgrade to Melodyne Editor € 299
- Upgrade to Melodyne Assistant € 99 + Upgrade from Melodyne Assistant to Melodyne Editor € 199 = € 298
Saves €1

Not sure what you mean by "special deal" but Celemony did offer a discount for a limited time to the Editor upgrade for S1 users. I checked my records and it was indeed $150 as I purchased it.
