NI Komplete 8, no brainer.  Guitar Rig 5 and Kontact 5 full plus so much more are worth the price alone.

Works in X1 and X2 no problems.  Komplete plugins x64 no problems.

My only regret is not buying Komplete 8 Ultimate when I had the money or waited a bit to find a bit more money.  I want the Ultimate Strings, Mutation libraries, mixing plugins, and basses now and well....I'll have to wait for a while for an upgrade deal.

Totally worth either Komplete 8 or Ultimate.  I couldn't do much without my NI products.

I upgraded to Ultimate when they had an offer on last summer. It was too much to resist. FWIW though, there is no "Ultimate Strings" (you get Session Strings) and I've never yet found a use for the Mutation libraries (although God knows I've tried). The extra plugs you get are well worth it, as well as synths like Razor and the stunning Prism. And yes the basses are great, but if you ever consider upgrading to Ultimate just for the basses, I think you'd be better off getting Trilian instead.

Yeah I missed the upgrade last summer.  Ultimate has Session Strings which is what I ment.  I bought Evolve so the Mutation libraries are a nice extension - just need to purchase them.

I already have Trillian so the basses aren't a biggy, but would be nice.  I already have EZ drummer and SD2.0 so the drums are much but can't ever havve too many drums.

I am holding off upgrading til Komplete Ultimate 9 comes out this year to see what all it contains - then I will decide on upgrade.

but for someone that doesnt have Komplete at all or is thinking about 1 or 2 NI products then Komplete is tottally the way to go.

I'm running NI Kompete Essentials - a pared down cheapie version.

Installed fine on XP/32bit/X1 Producer

On the Win7/64bit/X2 producer the NI installer would hang til I copied the NI install executables to my desktop and ran from there - ran fine

Amazing set of players and patches - Reaktor is awesome and Kontackt lets you layer some amazing stuff - NI - from the software side - seems top notch!

And Yeah if yer a math geek - Reaktor fits yer brain.

Question for the Komplete Ultimate users, it comes with an external usb drive for content. Is it possible to move that content over to a system drive or is it "locked"?

You install it all from the drive. And then you can store that drive away should you need to install it again. There have been complaints about the drives being faulty but it worked perfectly for me. I've had to install it twice and have had no problems.

Thanks Sharke...one other question: My main drive is an 120gb SSD so I won't have the space for samples etc, are the programs in Komplete cool with putting all the content on a different drive other than C as long as the program is on C or do you have to modify the registry like Dimension Pro?

It is worth waiting for a special on Komplete, last year near december Komplete was almost half price if you own any NI software.

I got in on the latest special in K8 ultimate.

Love the sounds, but didn't like the almost 30 gigs of extra download that were required to get all the updates as the content on the harddrive is outdated ...

I use Kontakt and Guitar Rig.  There are other components in Komplete, but I have zero problems with Kontakt and GR.

I do find NI's authorization process goffy and their customer service is not warm and fuzzy, but their products are rock-solid in my experience.

Regarding Kontakt, I have equal or better sample libraries for many of the key sounds (piano, orchestra, guitar, drums, etc.) but that said, it would be hard to find a better all-in-one collection and the sounds are all good enough to put on records.  If all I had were Kontakt, I could do almost everything I needed (except that I depend heavily on RealGuitar for strummed acoustics and don't find Kontakt's solution quite up to that).

Komplete 7 running rock solid.

I actually constructed some Soanr X2a track templates yesterday with Jamstix and Kontakt Abbey Road drums and Battery 3.

Not a glitch drag and drop and away we go!

Plenty of Kontakt, Reaktor, Massive, Battery ...

Everything works without a glitch here...

It's a good investment, I would not say the same about their hardware though.

Cheers !

V

I don't know about their other hardware, but my little N.I. KA6 interface totally blows away a Roland VS 100,that I picked up cheap,in the Round Trip Latency department.

The VS latency is appalling on my laptop, and won't even open projects until there is at least 12 ms indicated RTLatency[more like 18ms!]

The KA6,on the other hand, will open and work,at 8.7 ms!

More testing needs to be done, but so far,a $200 bus powered interface blowing away the VS 100,is a worry,I guess it was made in 2009,and the KA6 is 2011,but still...

One complaint that I have with Komplete (including Ultimate) is that it doesn't include a decent parametric EQ. By decent I mean one that sounds great and has a usable interface.

If you just buy Komplete, you get these really outdated looking offerings, which are "custom EQ" (just tone, freq, scoop and volume controls), "Graphic EQ" (an 8-band graphic EQ with fixed bands that appears to me to be useless for anything serious), "Parametric EQ" (which only has 2 - count 'em - 2 bands and really clunky old style interface which is horrible for anything surgical), and "Shelving EQ" (yep, you get a high shelf and a low shelf). Not one of these has a hi-pass or lo-pass filter. Incredible, ain't it? And why they didn't just combine the shelf EQ with a parametric EQ, I'll never know. All pretty lame really.

If you buy Komplete Ultimate, you get the Solid Mix Series of plugs, which contains a very nice SSL-style EQ (switchable between E-type and G-type), and has 6 bands including a hi-pass and a lo-pass filter. It's basically very similar to the EQ that's in the mixing interface in NI's Drummer series and sounds great. However, not everyone is going to want to work with a non-graphical EQ like this (I myself like to see the curves). Here it is:

All in all I was very disappointed with the EQ offerings in Komplete Ultimate. Granted, I have other EQ's, but it would have been nice to be able to do all of my EQing in the Guitar Rig-hosted FX chains that I string together. It seems really strange that they're lacking in this area since all of the other effects are great. I really hope they offer something new EQ-wise in Komplete 9.
