Any SonarX4 news/rumors?

Hi folks. Happy Holidays to all!
So, I'm finally ready to upgrade my SonarX1 after finally getting the Vista desktop PC replaced with a W8 box. Normally, there is an annual update to Sonar about this time of year. I haven't seen or heard much about the next update to SonarX3, but it's probably in the near future. Rather than update to X3 now and have to go through another purchase and update grief process shortly thereafter, I'm wondering how far out into the future I might have to wait for the next version?
I realize they are busy with the store updates, SSO process, etc. In fact, Cakewalk pretty much lost the history of my purchases and associated SNs and Reg#'s (their bad!), but I'm working through it with them. It does illustrate my concerns with upgrading just a bit too early, and then having to climbing 2 learning curves rather than one. I'm patient enough to wait quite a while if necessary, but I don't think the next update is out a whole year from now. Any thoughts or comments?

A couple of months ago if you'd asked I bet most people would have assumed it would be out by now. Who knows whats happening.

Several items I had bought went missing during old shop/new shop migration but they are all there now. You might want to check your account again.

I have insider secret information that SONAR X4 will not appear during 2014. Of course, pretty much everyone else has access to the same information that in Boston, 2015 is about two hours away.

I'll ping Edward Snowden, maybe he has some info...

Apparently no news. Seems like it would be a good idea to build a little buzz and then showcase the new 'store' with an amazing update deal, but I don't do marketing. I do agree that they should take the time to do it 'right' and avoid the whole X1 update thing which was pretty tedious through version 1d. I'm not expecting a complete overhaul or anything, just the usual yearly update. Maybe this spring?

Personally, I think it's a very good thing that CW is no longer chained to the "gotta get an update out at the same time every year" schedule. The company has always been secretive about when a new version is coming out because let's face it, software is a moving target and they don't want to promise something and not deliver. It's not an attempt to withhold information.

But also, as you can tell there's a lot going on at Cakewalk. It remains a small company yet there's a major overhaul happening at all levels - the forum reorg, the new store, adding CES to the trade show schedule (hi Tara!), integrating with Gibson's sales and distribution machine, and of course, working on the core products. All this takes time, and there's more concern about getting it right than hitting an arbitrary deadline.

Come to think of it, so is saying something about nothing.

Question :  if the Nomad Factory Blue Tubes plugins are locked to X3 and X4 offers something else, will the BT plugins still be useable in X4 ?

From NF support, quoted in this thread :

The previous version of Blue Tubes you own was locked to Sonar X3, so when you updated it with our new v5 plugins, it now requires a regular Blue Tubes license.  So we recommend removing the new Blue Tubes plugins and reinstall Sonar X3 to get previous versions of BlueTubes working again.

Or are the plugins locked to 'Sonar' ?

I'm just wondering about the usefulness of learning the BT plugins if they may disappear in the near future.

IIRC, I remember reading the BT plugs from X3 will be forward compatible (X3 and later), just not backward compatible.

After a beta test of the new "Matrix-like" jack-in feature, the first feedback item received was, "So.... Where are the virtual roadies????"

Unexpected "DOH!" moment ensued... Feverish programming of "virtual roadies" now in progress... Stay tuned...

I agree, that is the nature of the beast. But there is a big difference between 'get enough done to ship by date" and developing a strong program with adequate testing prior to release.

I don't know if Cakewalk does this, but some companies will put out a limited release to various 'super users' as a test version, to expand the testing of the software besides what is done in house. This allows 'real' users to try things that those doing the testing in house would never do. This is another good way of getting rid of additional bugs before you have a full release, and thus your product is that much stronger.

In the end, its all a matter mind set

I think this thread should be merged into the fairly recent megathread. The FSF needs some challengers.. Will leave it for 24 hours maybe so it gets bigger. ...
