Anyone else boycotting the Oscars?
I will be, and I will be missed as much as everyone else not nominated for anything.

I've never understood the appeal of award shows and have no idea why people watch them. Years ago I shared an apartment with a woman who would make a huge deal of every one of them - all her friends would come over with booze and they would be whooping and cheering through the whole thing. I'd have to go out. I have an actress friend who won a Tony a few years ago and that was pretty cool (I got to hold it and do the whole Kramer routine) so I can understand if you're in the business, but as for everyone else - how on earth does the opinion of some panel affect your enjoyment of movies or anything else? If you like it you like it.

I liked what Jodie Foster said many many years ago, when asked about award shows. Although I can't remember word for word, it was basically, "Since the awards are not based on anything accurate, relevant, meaningful or important, and are instead mostly just popularity votes and contests, I simply have no interest in them". And she would be one, who many would agree, would be most deserving of them - many times over. So I respected her for saying so and agreed with her about it from that day on. Clearly, she's right. Much of the time, it can only be based solely on popularity in many cases, when you see who won on the news the next day - whether you want to or not.

Sure I'll go the The Oscars the day they decide to send a fricken private jet over to to pick my Ragged Looking Mountain Man A$$ up . The Studio also needs to throw in some new duds and give me a Smoking Hot Supermodel to hold hands with as we walk the Red Carpet together ... Is that likely to ever happen ? Nope , I think I stand a better chance of getting nominated for a Grammy Sure , Like that will ever happen either....... Well , it's time for me to go . The head nurse over here at the mental institute is standing over me with my Meds and she is tapping her foot trying to get my attention She did tell me that if I'm a good boy , I can watch anything I want on TV the day of The Oscars Kenny

it appears one of the favourites overlooked was Cate Blanchette apparently because of the lesbian overtones in the movie. management have said they will address the membership regarding "the lack of diversity". from memory the voting "members" are chosen for life and can pass their membership to family and have an average higher age even greater than the Coffee House. let the moviegoers and viewers vote-we are the real critics.. rant over......... edit:or we could get Mosh to do the voting?? at least he`s one of us..

If we're being watches by aliens...they can't be very impressed. We give trophies for making movies and HipHop, and the truly successful get reality shows. What really makes me laugh is that some of these people really think that they are important artist doing the world a favor. They need to hold down a job for one month, and they would see who's gifting who.

Is there an actual attempt going on to organize an Oscar boycott? Guess I am out of the loop. I also don't really give a hoot if there is one. I most likely will turn it on that night. It's the only award show I generally watch. It gives me a peek at all the good movies that bypassed me for the year, as well as movies not even brought to the mass viewing audiences attention. I can get a feel for good foreign films, and then wait for Netflix to acquire them. Heck, from last year I might never had known about "The Imitation Game" or "The Theory Of Everything". But controversy? I hope so. Makes the show that much more interesting.

sharke ... I am offended that you are offended that I am offended that you are offended that I am offended that you are offended times a billion! ... Skinchies no returns
It's hard to take the Oscars seriously anymore. Too many of its voters are Hollywood croonies that have no films in there and are no longer valid users and players, and they are voting for the things they will never see, and simply choosing a person they know. I would like to see the Academy close down its ranks and say that you have to see 80% of the nominees to qualify for voting on a given selection, but not able to vote in other selections if you did not see as many as you are supposed to. The appreciation for "film" has been lost a long time ago, and at least the previous awards a couple of weeks ago, were much more centered on the work by people that actually worked in film, as opposed to the joke of the Oscars. I'm glad to see things like SW get the finger, because those "mega movies" need to stop hurting the film going public that is convinced that is the only good thing out there ... and because of it, you are not going to see 3 or 4 of the top named films, and then think your emotional selection is the best ... you did not see the others to evaluate properly. One of the ways to "keep the award" at home, is to make sure that the only nominees are people at home, and thus favorites, like Stallone and others, will get nods, when they don't need it and don't deserve it. But it's a thank you for all the money they helped make for many folks.

Star Wars (SW) probably should not get any awards (let alone nominations) unless they create an award for largest dollar grossing movie. Was it entertaining? Sure. Other than that it was a reunion show. Nothing earth shattering in graphics. Story line was okay. Just a cut-above sci-fi movie. The hoopla is its nostalgia.

Isn't that all that matters? It's not a technical documentary about the perils of space flight in an alien galaxy. It's meant to be entertainment. So if it entertains, then it's fulfilled its porpoise and deserves an Oscar...

If being entertaining is the only credential, then Cheech & Chong deserve Academy Award for their movies in my eyes. Along with many other types of movies I find entertaining but not deserved of this special honor.

I haven't watched in years, well never really unless you count when I was a captive audience as a child. Ya, some people are upset be cause the movie "Straight Outta Compton" didn't get any nominations. Apparently no one in the "academy" wanted to go see it because of some song about killing cops and something else I don't remember... it was in the background and I wasn't really listening. Jada Smith is upset and not going because Will didn't get nominated for his performance in "Concussion". It is obvious, the Academy is RACIST and they need diversity training... I bet they will take that well. You tell them, I'm not going there! Let Sean Penn tell them! Perhaps they should present some "Participation Oscars", that should make everyone happy. J

It's just my poor attempt at a joke. A few actors and directors are boycotting because there wasn't any black people nominated. I've seen a bunch of these movies, and I don't think any of them deserved to be myself. Creed was better than I was expecting, but was it Oscar worthy? No it wasn't. Will Smith made a football movie no one cared to see...was it Oscar worthy? I have no idea. Didn't care to see it. Anyway that's what the joke is about. I think we can all agree that getting that getting trophies for making movies or music is pretty stupid either way.
