Anyone have any experience using the new Waves v9 in X1?

So Waves is having a massive sale right now. 50% off on some items. The thing is, as most of you already know, getting Waves to work in a native 64-bit environment has been hell for most. So I've just stayed away from it all together. But now I'm hearing/reading that with Waves v9, it is 64-bit compatible! I am itching to go spend some money.. but before I do, I wanna be sure I won't regret it. Does anyone have any positive (or negative) experience with the new waves plugins in Sonar X1?

I have Waves 9 64bit.. and been using Waves sense version 6 I think.  Never had any real issues with it in the past, but when I got a new system a few months ago I went all 64bit, and Waves 8 was pretty much my only 32bit Plugin left.  I couldn't wait to get 9.  And so far it's been great, no issues as of yet.  ; )

Thanks California! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. According to the Waves website Sonar X1 is listed as being supported (at least most of the plugins), but I always like to hear from real world users before taking the plunge. Did you have to uninstall your previous versions and do any registry editing? I've read some people have had some work around issues upon their initial install of v9 when coming from previously installed versions.

I uninstalled Waves 8 yeah and did a clean install of 9.  I got the Mercury bundle.. there's alot of plugins I haven't tried yet, but I figured I'd get around to using them so I went with that bundle.  If you like the Waves sound (most do) then ya can't go wrong ; )

Good to know, California. I am thinking about the Mercury bundle myself,.. at 50% off!! Although, truthfully, I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to using most of them. Thanks again for the info!

I had no luck with V9. I went back to V8 just because I got tired of troubleshooting and I wanted to get back to making music. I went back and forth with Waves and Sonar tech support trying to get to the bottom of it. I updated my wup to get V9.

I have Waves Platinum plus Vocal rider (Whoa time saver!), and Bass Rider (OH yeah!) V9 running smoothly thus far. All my favs are working great. Havent tried any of the timecode based ones from waves in X1D though(currently not fastbouncing with melodyne/antares/other timecoade based plug-ins). Waves version 9 definitely sounds better than my previous version 5. Nice to not have to bridge those. (Come on Antares! you're the last ones in my Library of FX not to be 64bit) Wrong forum I know. One thing to add is that I am noticing a graphical issue between Waves 9v2 and Sonar X1exp D, Certain knobs and sliders don't function as they should. eg. HDelay knob you click hold then slide up or down and it won't go all the way. you have to re-click and slide more, and it still won't set to 2 bars via mouse. Workaround is to click then use the mouse wheel or arrow keys up and down. Weird thing is the plugin knobs will work until the first time you send audio through them, then they quit re-acting correctly.

No problems here with V9 x64. I'm glad they finally recoded to 64bit. They load faster and seem to work a lot better.

I just demoed Tapes Tubes Trans.,and had no end of hassle even getting them to download, thankfully support sent me a direct link, but  after X1 x64 scanned and opened, with the all clear, the plug in names would show in the FX bin,but not visually AT ALL.

Eventually,I noticed most of the data, was in the x86 part of Windows,so I copied the .dll's into the VST plug folder, and they eventually showed and worked great, for 8 days instead of 7.

I now have a lead on the bundle for less than $300,but due to the hassles[Iv'e never had these kinds of probles with any other plugs] I'm a bit wary, and I'm a little confused about using them on 2 machines.

If you install the licence on a USB stick[or the cloud] do you have to then re-authorise EVERY time you want to use THAT machine?

Both of my rigs are on line, but I'am used to the convenience of NOT having to fool around, every time I go back and forth[sometimes quite a few times],or is it a quick/simple process, that you must do every time?

Whichever machine you are using waves on, just be sure you have your USB stick in. I was excited to not have eliscenser for them, but now I have ilok, eliscenser, and a USB stick.

I'd be careful of copying & pasting dlls into different folders.
Never had had problem with any Waves version, they have a few minor bugs now & then. Stable & cpu friendly.

With Waves, you don't put the plug-in DLLs in the VST folder. You install Waves and select which plugs you want to install (x64 if you want, in v9). Then tell the installer where your 64 bit VSTs are. Waves installs a DLL called WaveShell-VST 9.0_x64.dll in the VST folder. This should be the only Waves DLL in your VST folder. It references the individual DLLs installed in the Waves/Plug-Ins folder after you scan VSTs into Sonar. You will see the individual plug-ins in Sonar's VST list, along with the WaveShell. You DO NOT put the individual DLLs in Sonar's VST folder.

Waves v9 x64 works great in Sonar. No problems whatsoever for me... aside from the little bug with the knobs, which is just a minor annoyance and not really a bother to me. You can also just click on a number around the knob, and it moves immediately there.

I have GTR-3 v9 working nicely under X1D 64.  I couldn't get any previous versions to work once I upgraded Sonar and my OS to 64 bit, however v9 seems to have fixed those issues.

Vocal rider: time saver for what it's for... riding the vocal, which I've always been very meticulous about. It's easy to adjust the parameters to have the plugin ride the vocal much like I like to hear and would do. eg. I like to ride up the tails of words (and other parts of words) for breath, expression, diction or emphasis. I still adjust to taste(via normal Cake Volume Automation, or even VRiders Own automation data), Saves time though. It's like having a great engineer pre-setup your automation based on your instructions and then coming in for executive touch-ups and fixes. Less fatigue time on your ears for the tedious, saves more ears for the critical times.

I picked up Vocal Rider and Bass Rider after reading this thread. All I can say is thanks, guys! These plugs are amazing! I don't see 64 bit, though... No problem using these in 32 bit with X1 on my computer running 64.

Yes,the "waveshell .dll" was the one I had to move myself,it was weird because, the plugin manager showed the waves stuff as being part of the VST effects, but they would not "appear"[yes I scanned properly]

So after I copied the waveshell .dll "again" thats when they actually showed up and worked.

I really liked the HLS comp/console,as well as the Tape machine on the master,I also really love the "Glue",but I just can't really afford, any of it ATM,and have been desperately trying to get similar results with what I have[X1 PC modules/Don't Crack-Plug and Mix V.I.P bundle, and Nomad Factory's Pultec EQ] but NOTHING seems to work as well[or as quickly] like Waves TT&T's or the Glue.

I was a pro guitarist back in the day,and recorded in great studios[when it happened]so I've only been playing "Sound Engineer" seriously, for about a year[join date],and I can't help thinking, that learning more about-compresssors/EQ,I should be able to get the SAME results with X1's compressors, but sadly the others I mentioned, just have fantastic presets, that makes "it" so much easier!,though the ole Sonitus comp.,really still has some legs.

I guess,I'm just a bit "underwhelmed" by the Pro Ch. comps[except the PC2A Limiting Amp],and wish there were individual presets for the modules, rather than "overall PC presets[which obviously could be incorporated into the PC presets].

I really think that's where Waves has it over cakewalks stuff, the actual tools don't seem to be that much better, but the presets Waves, has for its tools just work.

As for the Glue, that is just a superior compressor IMO.

cool here ...first scan is a pain (with waveshels and 64bit versions instaled anyway!)

Also now waves can live with X ray with no issue , so go to the xrayexclude .txt and just put *** before "wavesvendor ect .." thing

Save it  , relaunche sonar and no waves + xray : ok!

I am getting GUI issues with waves one knob series.   You turn the dial and if you have them on multiple tracks, the gui will distort/glitch.

I was disappointed to learn only 2 out of my 8 or so waves plugs were ver 9.  The rest were 8 (32 bit).

Weird,Same Install/Authorise/Scan OK-Then NO plugins show up with the Waves SSL Bundle again![after completely un-installing,re-installing-choosing 64 "program files" folder for the plugs]

I had to copy the plugin folder to "VST Plugins" under Cakewalk 64 to eventually get the plugs to show.

I also did my best to duplicate some of the Waves SSL presets[which again are very good IMO] with X1's SSL buss comp, and the resemblence is purely visual, although the cake comp, does do a good enough job.

I should point out this weirdness,is only on my Dell xps laptop, which has always been odd,but Ive never had to go to such lengths to get plugs to show up before.

After I move the folder,I get 4 versions of each plug showing up then-1.Stereo2.Mono,and again for 32bit[in x64 X1] under"waveshells",but until I move the folder-no show.

Again,I install, this time to "p-files"[not x86]then to "VST plugins" of Cakewalk/X1,everything scans, licences are found, all seems fine, but you right click in FX bin,NO choice for Waves AT ALL[even though plugin manager shows they're there!].

I'm going to try the desk[or get the licencer to initilize from the desktop?]and see,I'll bet everythings normal.

Bob      PS. The funny part [?] is the Dell XPS has the "Waves MaxxAudio" as part of THIS model, but Waves plugs, are the oddest plugs,to get going.

can anyone explain this "Waveshell" thingy!  I mean in Cakewalks plugin manager there are 100's of plugs after install and none are alphabetised into something that would be easy to pick out in the list between your other VST's.

I'm still testing a dummy win64 X1-64bit setup and various plugins but i'm not sure of the waves install.  I have 2 versions of each plugin.  Example:

    CLA 2A
    CLA 2A
    CLA 2A (0)

I know 1 is 64bit and 1 is 32 but but wheres the other one come from?

Tempo sync and Freeze issue: Song with multiple tempos. I have HDelay on the Baritone Gtr track 1/8d ping pong 'Host' tempo checked. Gtr comes in at a section with 86 bpm. During playback the tempo follows the host up and down. During freeze the Hdelay takes the first tempo and stays there (you can see the Gui anime during freeze). Playback of frozen track confirms slower origianl tempo only (no host tempo tracking). With fastbounce un-checked (audible) the track bounces as expected. Fastbounce not so.
