Anyone liking this Jamaica update?

It appears at first blush that people are just posting problems.   Are there people who think this is worth downloading and why?

I like it very much. Every update has people posting problems. Sometimes they don't become apparent until an update comes along and causes the problem to show itself. Its a use case situation. Sometimes an update will break something that was working. Though that doesn't happen often.

What CW has done to ensure good service is with the Command Center we are able to roll back to the last version if that becomes necessary. I don't worry about updates.

Working fine for me. I haven't used the routing stuff practically yet, but I imagine I will soon.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

works great for me.  Faster load time, etc...   People typically post here because they have problems...when they don't have them, they're busy recording!!

I like the update and have already used some of the added routing flexibility in a project. I do have a problem since the Jaimaca update with the start screen being blank which is mentioned in another post on that problem, but as it doesn't hinder my workfow I didn't feel the need to rollback.

Jamaica Plain running rock solid here . . . though I haven't yet used any of the new routing features they've added, not sure I need them ? . . . but I can say that it's running fine for me with no issues.

Update works great here, although I have to take into account that the solo behaviour of aux tracks isn't intelligent like with buses. Also I still can't use Audiosnap cause of the still wrong / late transient detection.

The last couple of updates with synth recording and now aux track routing and patch points have revolutionized Sonar for me. It's a HUGE workflow boost. I got so sick of traveling back and forth between the tracks and buses, whether in the track view or in the console view. If you're going to route all of your drums to a bus, what was the advantage in having that drum bus all the way behind the "curtain"? That separation had a negative psychological impact on my workflow, in that I felt disorganized and jumbled.

Now my track philosophy is thus:

Instead of grouping tracks to a bus I put all of those tracks in a folder and add an aux track to it, routing all of the tracks to the aux. All of the tracks are together in the folder.

If I'm using an effects return that's only for a group of tracks that I have grouped in a folder, I'll set up the return as an aux track. For instance, I might be using a room reverb or a delay that's only being used for drums. It goes in the drums folder instead of behind the curtain. Far more logical and organized.

If I'm using an effects return that's used widely across the whole project, I'll set up a bus for that as usual. It can stay behind the curtain, out of the way.

The old way of doing things seems so archaic already.

Synth recording is another major workflow improvement. It's now so much easier to print synth parts and draw a line under them. The old way of exporting or bouncing was a drag. I would be too lazy to do it, and as a result would twiddle with synth controls ad infinitum to the point where I was just chasing my tail. Now it's so easy to just record the synth, get rid of the MIDI track and turn the synth off so that I'm committed to it.

And yes, it's definitely snappier for me. I can feel a good performance boost in synth heavy projects.

Good points.  And now I can control all my "busses" (aux tracks) with my Mackie Control!

Of course you should update, every update gives big improvement!
And you can always easily rollback for a while if there are some new issues that disturb you, and wait for it to be fixed. But it is very unlikely scenario.

Sonar Pt-JP works fine so far.  Some useful improvements.  However, I was disappointed that CW abandoned the new Start Menu opening when a project is closed, and after only one month.  It worked fine for me when the internet was off and it was nice to have the uniformity of operation.  I hope they bring it back as an option.

Cheers

Sharke, do you route the aux tracks, in the folders, to the master bus? So in general, you don't have any buses other than the master?

Personally, I haven't experienced any issues and the new routing options are excellent :-)

There's a big bug with multi-outputs and CPU. Await the regression fix I suggest before updating, Bakers will need to fix this one quickly.

Very nice routing. You can now record a click track from  the internal metronome.  Feed one track back into another track. Many have requested these features over the years. Just playing with other routing options and all seem to be working good.

Not to suggest you will have problems but if it does not work for you, rollback is easy and quick. I would recommend trying rollback at least once to become familiar with the function. Hopefully, you will never have cause to rollback other than to test the process.

Sharke, do you route the aux tracks, in the folders, to the master bus? So in general, you don't have any buses other than the master?

Thanks

All the aux tracks are routed to the master bus as usual, however if I found the need to route them elsewhere (for instance if I wanted to group aux tracks together into a submix) then I would do that. I'm not saying that I have no need for buses other than the master any more - for example, lets say I need a universal "glue" reverb that I'm going to send a little of all tracks to, regardless of their grouping. Or I might have a couple of universal delays, or an instance of an aural exciter that I'm going to use to add sparkle to a few select (but otherwise unconnected) tracks. I would use a bus for those returns.

I guess the idea is that if you have a bunch of tracks that are logically grouped together and need to be processed as a group or which use an effects return exclusively, then use aux tracks and group them all (tracks & auxes) in a folder. If you have a need for universal effects returns or are busing aux tracks into a wider submix, then use buses.

I haven't tried the 64bit version yet but on my 32bit laptop it's a bit top heavy now because I get audio dropouts but my laptop has limited memory though so I really have no complaints! I don't understand the new routing features at all but it runs my projects! What ever problems it has users will be used as guinea pigs I'm sure! Lol!

A lot of OPs had the courtesy to mark threads regarding JP as "solved." You might want to check these out so you know what issues some people ran into, and the solutions.

I think it's wonderful. One of my favourite episodes of the season :)

I suppose this is an example of how we all tend to post more about problems than successes. And for myself, I'm just busy right now, so not posting a lot about anything.

But I've been using the new routing options all day every day since we've had them. And I've not had any actual problems or ran into any bugs, though over the last week, I've spent 90% of my time mixing audio, very little use of soft synths or MIDI. So if there are issues with any of that, I wouldn't know. But everything is working very solidly for my current projects.
