I notice some people have had weird start screen behaviour, which I've not had. I hope that gets fixed for those cases, because I've gone from thinking the start screen was a pain in the neck to thinking it's great. For me, pops up immediately, does exactly what I need it to do. I'm usually hopping around, say, three or four different projects any given week, and the start screen is now really working well for that.

sharke The last couple of updates with synth recording and now aux track routing and patch points have revolutionized Sonar for me. It's a HUGE workflow boost. I got so sick of traveling back and forth between the tracks and buses, whether in the track view or in the console view. If you're going to route all of your drums to a bus, what was the advantage in having that drum bus all the way behind the "curtain"? That separation had a negative psychological impact on my workflow, in that I felt disorganized and jumbled. Now my track philosophy is thus: Instead of grouping tracks to a bus I put all of those tracks in a folder and add an aux track to it, routing all of the tracks to the aux. All of the tracks are together in the folder. If I'm using an effects return that's only for a group of tracks that I have grouped in a folder, I'll set up the return as an aux track. For instance, I might be using a room reverb or a delay that's only being used for drums. It goes in the drums folder instead of behind the curtain. Far more logical and organized. If I'm using an effects return that's used widely across the whole project, I'll set up a bus for that as usual. It can stay behind the curtain, out of the way. The old way of doing things seems so archaic already. Synth recording is another major workflow improvement. It's now so much easier to print synth parts and draw a line under them. The old way of exporting or bouncing was a drag. I would be too lazy to do it, and as a result would twiddle with synth controls ad infinitum to the point where I was just chasing my tail. Now it's so easy to just record the synth, get rid of the MIDI track and turn the synth off so that I'm committed to it. And yes, it's definitely snappier for me. I can feel a good performance boost in synth heavy projects.
Sounds great. Think you could maybe post a screen cap of how you're doing things. It would be very helpful. ThanksE6!

Working fine here...
The program now starts quickly as it used to... Thanks...
Though I haven't had any practical need for the new routing yet, I'm pleased to know its there for if/when I need it.
Tested it and so far it works fine. Logical and intuitive...
But they didn't change the Layer Zoom issues yet, so I'm still badly wanting...

Not a good update for me unfortunately. After 4 goes at updating and rolling back, I've had to contact Support on this one. I loaded a project I had been working on and some of the soft synths I had suddenly had a weird timing issue...started playing a couple seconds after they were meant to and continued playing after project stopped. Whilst this occurred with some newer synths I had recently purchased, it was even doing it with Zeta. On one occasion, I tried the upscaling real time thing, and that just made it worse...so perhaps it's related? So then I tried a reset/re-scan and it stalled on a Wave plug-in. All other updates have been perfect but this is the first update after upgrading to Win 10...hope it's not because of that as 10 seems pretty good otherwise.

There are a number of waves threads scattered around the forums since Jamaica. Chances are (if I may be so bold to speculate) one of them will get that issue resolved. The other issue, there has been in more than one thread from memory, well fingers crossed the regression release (which I hope is coming TBC, certainly bakers have confirmed they have already fixed some regression bugs) will resolve it. I would be extremely surprised if any issues are win10 specific, esp as I assume you were running Sonar fine on windows 10 before.

deswind It appears at first blush that people are just posting problems. Are there people who think this is worth downloading and why?
I spend most of my time in the staff view and event list. I'm running Platinum Gloucester. The three updates since Gloucester, including Jamaica, introduced a new bug in the staff view. It involves the snap function. If you choose a note value you'll notice by moving the mouse around, the snap function doesn't correspond to the note value, as it should and as it does in Gloucester and earlier updates. There were problems with this in X1 and X2, fixed in X3, but now reappearing again. CW knows about this and has confirmed it. I've sent in problem reports so hopefully it will be fixed soon. If you use staff view a lot, use Gloucester. That's the latest update where the snap function works correctly in staff view. JG www.jerrygerber.com

S: Great comments .... I kinda loved the 'old way' since it was very much like a console topology - but after all it's 2015 and we're using software - the Aux tracks and Folders are a great way to make a mix much more efficient. Total game changer. -D

Jamaica update killing me. After update i got randomly crashing after project bounce. Once the timeline reaches the end of the project, I get to crash sonar and broken a wav file, which is not append few kilobytes. This is about one of third export. I working on 3 albums at the same time, and with this "new feature", and I'm losing a lot of time. Can I get some help here, or i need to create a separate thread? Steam user (Sonar Professional). Thanks, and sorry for bad english.

I have had a few problems I wasn't having with the last version. I'm getting distorted playback when I open a project recorded at 96 kHz instead of 48 kHz. For some projects with plugins that add a lot of loudness (like Ozone 6's Maximizer) I get crackling distortion, as if the automatic limiting isn't working. But I'm sure this will get ironed out. I'm really impressed with the ambitious step forward represented by JP, and the new routing is great. It appears that the Gibson regime is working out well for Cakewalk, at least from the outside. As someone who has many dollars invested in Gibson products, it's satisfying to think they are contributing to the music software I've been using since 1989.

Try increasing the latency a bit. Plug-ins like Ozone's Maximizer need a lot of CPU, especially so at higher sample rates.

I suggest rolling back to the previous SONAR version, finish your projects, then look for the source of the problem with JP. The past week I've done dozens of bounces in the process of doing final preparation for a CD album release, and not had any problems. So it's probably not related specifically to JP, which could make the problem harder to track down. Contacting tech support is often a good idea as well.

I'm liking JP a lot. As mentioned above ... the start menu issue has been observed and it is minor
Craig's post on the Cakewalk blog explains routing options quite well ... made the whole thing super easy for me and like Sharke ... it's opened a new door for me...
Just used patch point to seperate frequencies using CW multiband ...then inserted aux to set global output... Funny thing is ... during the SONAR 8.5 days we had a huge mixing template that did a real Frankenstein track separation to access multiband mixing it was a bit cumbersome and time consuming to mix ...I just did it in a jiffy with new JP routing options as explained by Craig in the blog

Kylotan I love the new Aux tracks and have wanted this functionality for years - I just have to work out how to get them to work with my recording workflow, since they require me to not use the 'disable all Input Echo' button that I've become accustomed to!
Could you elaborate on this? I'm not sure I understand your workflow.
The long version is here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Managing-recordarm-and-input-echo-settings-m3306375.aspx The short version is: I record a lot of audio where I need Input Echo enabled, all via the same input port. (eg. Vocals with effects, guitars via Guitar Rig, etc.) This means I need an easy way to disable echo on all tracks except the one I'm currently working with. My previous workflow would be "Click the enable/disable all Input Echo' button in the Control Bar to clear it (and therefore disable input echo across all tracks), then enable Input Echo on the track I want to record into. However, this breaks Aux tracks because they will be disabled as well. Now, I have to manually scroll through all my tracks and switch off each one individually, which is tiresome. (A similar process applies to my Recording workflow, but that doesn't interact with Aux Tracks.) To put it another way, I want to be able to quickly clear Input Echo on 'physical' inputs, not 'virtual' inputs. I can't think of a time I'd ever want to disable the virtual inputs (though I'm sure that doesn't hold for everybody).

I might not be using SONAR to its fullest potential, but I like it a lot. I do not think about having a DAW anymore, I just work on it

Thanks for the input. We'll investigate whether we can make an optional behavior for the ctrl bar input echo button. Perhaps CTRL clicking that button could only toggle echo state on hardware inputs and leave virtual inputs alone...
