I haven't ever saved a Sonar project in this format. I guess Sonar is capable? This might be a very good piece to pick up if it keeps the user from having to export every single track for Mixbus. Looking forward to a quick revue.

I don't understand this plug. You can import stems without it so what's the big deal. Unless I'm missing something.

It will save you the time of having to export stems and then import them back into Mixbus... Just save your project in one of those formats and import the project straight into Mixbus... Time saver....

The advantage of OMF as opposed to stems is you can export in one much quicker single step that preserves the structure of your entire session, including light edits like trims and fades intact. Be warned that OMF can be tricky. The more processing done to mix the better chance of failure to export.

I bought it first thing this morning. I'm running X3e 64 bit in Windows 8.1. I threw in a project in X3, exported all tracks as an OMF. Xchange runs in the background when you open Mixbus. You click to Open Session on the Xchange window that comes up. Locate your OMF, click open, and Mixbus opens up with all tracks in place! This is so dead easy it's not funny. You will be prompted when Xchange starts up to register or keep evaluating for thirty days. Click register and write down all pertinent info because you will be ask for it to register on line. Also, be sure to print out your e-mail with the order number because you will be asked for that as well. About 15 minutes later I received an e-mail from Harrison asking was I sure that I wanted to register. They wanted to make sure I had ample time with the program to be sure I wanted it. I responded that I absolutely was sold on this program and proceed with my registration. While the registration process is somewhat convoluted, it is rather easy if you follow my instructions. This is, in my opinion, a must have if you intend to use Mixbus with Sonar or any other DAW that exports OMF or AAF files. I don't see how they could have made it much easier to use.

No word on midi, vsti, or X64 so far. The rumour mill says that all of that should be coming along soon. From my experiences today it just is a breeze tracking in X3 and exporting the OMFs in to Mixbus. I have always used Sonar from beginning to end on all my projects but hearing the mix and mastering in Mixbus seems to have more of a blended vintage sound that has been lacking in Sonar. I am not sure that I would go to the trouble of using Mixbus on a regular basis but it sure is nice to have the option of using it to knock of some of the digital brittleness I have in tracks that get sent to me. There are a ton of videos out there about Mixbus. Check 'em out. BTW, I was loading projects in X3e 64 bit and exporting them out as OMFs, opening them, and mixing and mastering in Mixbus 2.5 which is 32 bit. I never had a problem over 4 hours of continuously throwing stuff in to Mixbus. If this thing goes in to X64 with midi and vstis, I believe it will be a very big contender if they keep the price down. I also should calm the rhetoric. You know how it is when you get a new piece of gear. My hearing may change after a couple of days and the shine has wore off. LOL

I think it worked very well and I love how all the tracks were exactly as they were in Sonar. In the Sonar manual it says that you need to bounce midi tracks to audio. You can just freeze them. I tried it and it worked well. It appears it just gives you the tracks as is with no effects so you would have to mix the drums without effects before you freeze them. Also, I use Amplitube so I'll freeze those as well so I don't have to insert the plug. I'm glad I asked what this was. It is going to be a huge time saver!

I should say too that it is a pretty fast workflow when you have a track in X3 that just has problems so bad it doesn't sit well in Mixbus. Just go back to X3, pull up the project, work on the single track and export that single track out as an OMF and fly the new version in! Pretty slick!

Mixbus cannot connect audio. I'm getting that message for every track. Tried a different project and still. Audio engine cannot connect audio. I'm not doing something right. [ERROR]: AudioEngine: cannot connect Audio 1/out 1 (ardour:Audio 1/out 1) to ardour:master/in 1 (ardour:master/in 1) I give up. I've sent e-mails for support, but their in England so maybe tomorrow. I wonder if I can get my money back if I don't register the software?

I don't what the deal is but when I first try and play it, I have to remember to set the audio output on the master bus. Weird. The other thing is all the tracks are "audio 1, audio 2 etc" and not the original names. That's a bummer as well but at least they are in the correct order.

Yes, I got it to work. I could not figure out what Sidroe was talking about with respect to fixing one track in Sonar and exporting the single track/OMF and bringing that into the current project.

It looks like you can only register it on a single machine. I would assume that you could do the OMF import on one mixbus machine then save as a mixbus project to use on another machine that has mixbus installed.?.?

For freezing Ampllitube, get the sound you want. Decide whether you want to EQ, or any other effects, to happen in Sonar or MB. Disable the effect you want an leave the ones you do and then freeze the track. It works for VSTIs as well. It might be a good idea to get a general mix without any effects so when you begin the mix in MB, your pretty close.

Freezing Amplitube doesn't work for me. I have to bounce down to audio. I must have some setting somewhere screwed up. My last attempt worked, but the tracks are backwards, the guitars and bass are 12db to quite, I assigned track 1,2 and 3 to bus 1, but the light for track 2 in the mixer window were wrong. It showed track 2 not assigned to a bus with the master light on. Strange because it was working properly...like the track view showed. The lights in the track view were correct.
